The MWA Report
Winter 2023
| |
Dear Clients and Friends,
It's incredible that we are already a full month into 2023. From an investment perspective, I think most investors would agree that it's off to a bumpy start. It's in volatile times like these that I think of the great American investor, Peter Lynch, who eloquently said, "Far more money has been lost by investors trying to anticipate corrections, than in the corrections themselves." More than 35 years of experience has taught us that successful investing requires patience, discipline, and the ability to control one's emotions.
In this edition of The MWA Report, you'll find a case study showcasing the use of a Donor Advised Fund (DAF), a legislative update on the new Secure Act 2.0, our quarterly economic commentary, a Tax Reference Guide for 2023 and a Community Impact Corner article on how one of our clients is making a positive difference in the lives of families in need. Lastly, Jennifer shares an excerpt from her family's vacation to the Georgia mountains over Thanksgiving.
As always, thank you for your trust and confidence in us to guide your financial future. We hope that you and your loved ones have a prosperous New Year.
Warm regards,
Bill

Charitable Giving Plan Minimizes Tax on Roth IRA Conversion
During last year's decline in the stock market, a young corporate executive converted her traditional 401(k) rollover to a Roth IRA. Despite her seemingly good timing, she had some concerns about the tax implications.

In this newest section of our newsletter, we plan to spotlight the good deeds that our clients are doing in their local communities.
Roig Lawyers believes in giving back to the community and partners with various charitable organizations throughout South Florida. Their attorneys are deeply involved in organizations such as the Ann Storck Center, Children’s Home Society, and the Overtown Youth Center. They also support various campaigns and fundraisers coordinated through the Florida Association of Women Lawyers and national and regional bar associations. Most recently, they partnered up with a competing firm to raise funds for families in impacted by Hurricane Ian that devastated the west coast of Florida . Annually, during every holiday season, the firm participates in food and toy drives for families in need through local schools.
Roig Lawyers’ employees, Stephanie Presta and Tina Marshall, delivered toys collected from the 2022 Adopt-A-Family Toy Drive. They are pictured here with faculty from the local south Florida elementary school.
We applaud Roig Lawyers for their service to others. They are surely making an impact in their local community.

A Holiday Update from Jenn
Last Thanksgiving my family traveled up to the beautiful mountains in Blue Ridge, Georgia. We rented a cabin with an incredible view and got a taste of some very cold weather, which was a welcome change. Our days were filled with hiking, wine tasting, sight-seeing, enjoying time spent by the fire, playing games and just relaxing. It was so enjoyable, and we can’t wait to go back – and maybe even retire there one day!
