Aaniin (Greetings)

Friends and Relatives of

Women’s Advocates,

As we reflect on the closing chapter of this year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support we've received from compassionate individuals like you. Whether through donations, participation in our Be Present or gift card drives, Domestic Violence Awareness Month fundraiser, Give to the Max Day, in-kind donations, volunteering, or various other means of support, your commitment has made a profound impact in the lives of the victim-survivors and children we serve every day. Your generosity has been a beacon of hope and a lifeline for our organization. It is incredibly inspiring to see our community come together in such diverse ways to support those in need. Your dedication echoes the spirit of solidarity and support that has defined Women's Advocates since our founding in 1974 as the first shelter in the nation for victim-survivors of domestic violence.

In the face of federal funding decreasing, the need for domestic violence shelters across our state is greater than ever. Your previous contributions have been instrumental, but as we navigate these trying times, I want to emphasize that it's not too late to give if you haven't already. Every contribution, big or small, has the power to make a difference. The urgency of our mission has never been clearer, and your support can provide safety, resources, and hope for those escaping violence. Together, we can create a community where victim-survivors find strength and solace.

As we celebrate the holiday season and the dawn of a new year, I want to extend warm wishes to you and your loved ones. May this season be filled with joy, warmth, and the knowledge that your generosity has touched lives and inspired change. Thank you for being an integral part of our mission.

Zhawenim (unconditional love),

Provide Support

Stepping into this holiday season, the challenges faced by victim-survivors of domestic violence come into sharp focus. Saran, Mental Health & Wellness Counselor, captured the emotional strain, noting, "Victim-survivors are overwhelmed with mental and emotional stress during the holidays. They are displaced and carry intense guilt, shame, and sadness. A common challenge is asking oneself: Should I go back for the sake of the children? Or should I weigh the storm?'" Roxy, Manager of Shelter Advocacy, further explained what victim-survivors experience this time of year, adding "…some of the most common challenges are grief and loss, transforming what was once a celebratory time into one filled with pain."

This holiday season, join us in reflecting on what victim-survivors of domestic violence experience and turn awareness into action. "We know that housing and economic resources are the two most common needs of victim-survivors. Survivors, especially parents, often feel inadequate due to societal pressure for a 'perfect Christmas,’” expressed Mary Beth, Grants Manager and former Crisis Resource Advocate. “If there's someone in your life that you're worried about, reach out to them! Try to plan a time to catch up over hot cocoa or a nice walk. Domestic violence is isolating, and it's important for victim-survivors to connect with people who care about them in safe, fun ways." Roxy provided additional valuable tips for the community to support victim-survivors this season: “…being vigilant in promoting safety, starting the conversation, learning the warning signs, believing victim-survivors of domestic violence victims, offering support, and listening without judgement.” As we come together to celebrate this year, may this be a season of healing, empowerment, and unwavering support for all.

Be Present Give Drive Success!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your support in our 2023 Be Present Gift Drive. Your generosity has made a profound impact and we are delighted to share that thanks to you we successfully provided holiday gifts for over 75 individuals, children, and parents with your thoughtful contributions. Your kindness and willingness to be present for victim-survivors and their families will resonate far beyond the holiday season, creating lasting moments of joy and comfort for those who need it most.

Donate Gift Cards This Year

This year, we invite you give back through our 2023 Gift Card Drive. Your support is vital in providing financial assistance to victim-survivors, not just during the holiday season but throughout their healing journey as they transition from our emergency shelter into safe housing. Gift cards in amounts ranging from $20 to $50 from places such as Walmart, Cub Foods, Speedway Gas Station, Holiday Gas Station, Target, and Pet Smart are incredibly valuable for the families and individuals we serve. Your generosity makes a real difference!
