An Important Message from our Board of Trustees about In-Person Services
Dear CommUNITY friends,

Your Board of Trustees met with the Reopening Team on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, and we are delighted to announce that, after taking all of the Reopening Team’s recommendations into consideration, we have voted to approve a reopening plan that paves the way for us to resume in-person services on Sunday, July 11. We are getting ready to welcome you back to our sacred space!

Here’s what you need to know right now:
Masks will be required of ALL attendees (vaccinated or not), at all times while in the building.

This precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of our older congregants in our small space.

A capacity limit of 50 congregants in the sanctuary at one time has been established. To ensure this limit is not exceeded, a reservations system will be implemented.

Phone reservations can be made up until 12 noon Friday; online reservations until 11:59 PM Friday.

When you arrive, you will be met by a greeter who will confirm your reservation. The greeter will give you an offering envelope if requested, and will also ask you to choose between a red, yellow, or green sticker to wear:
  • Red means that you would like everyone around you to maintain a 6’ social distance.
  • Yellow means you’re OK with elbow bumps, but prefer others to stay about 3 feet away.
  • Green means you’re OK sitting next to someone in the sanctuary, and might even want a handshake or a hug.
A “seater” will seat you in the sanctuary according to your sticker choice. Couples and families will be allowed to sit together.

Sanctuary will be as ventilated as possible. Doors and windows will remain open, weather permitting, and ceiling fans will remain on. (Back door will have a barrier to prevent unwanted critters from entering, accomplished by a thick line of cayenne pepper across the threshold and/or cement blocks and lath.)

Although we still can’t open the Community Room for an indoor social hour after service, all are encouraged to commune with each other outside.

Covid-safe cleaning protocols will be implemented and maintained.

In joy and gratitude that we can be together again very soon,

Tom McCrory, President, Board of Trustees
Karen Roberts, Vice President, Board of Trustees

Monasticizing Life
Where the Rubber
Meets the Road
I fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm as I offer you the opportunity to experience this life-transforming introduction to Unified Mindfulness Meditation!
 You’ll learn how to:
  • Break through your barriers
  • Bring the benefits of meditation into all aspects of your life
  • Practice mindfulness throughout your day
  • Get through challenges and deepen your fulfillment in life’s littlest moments and in your major triumphs.
Sundays 6:30 pm
(July 11 – August 29)
This class is for you if you:
  • are brand new to meditation OR
  • if you have years of experience in other contemplative practices,
  • ready to more deeply transform your life and advance your happiness quotient,
  • willing to commit to actively participate in the 8-week class and
  • to practice at least 10 minutes a day – on or off the cushion.
Here’s a few testimonials from participants in previous classes:
This method is so positive and beneficial. Often I felt as though I had failed meditating in years past because I had thoughts that took me "around the world" or I didn't have a great revelation. I so appreciate your dedication to your journey and seeking of new modalities and teachings to share with all of us.
Karen Ream Buchen
The tools have been extremely helpful in enhancing the quality of my meditation time on the cushion, and I love the concept of "micro-hits" to keep me more mindful and present throughout the day. This was a very comprehensive introduction to the practice and I appreciate having all these wonderful new tools.

The Unified Mindfulness system was developed by Shinzen Young, teacher of 50 years, neuroscience research consultant and author of “The Science of Enlightenment.” Shinzen developed the Unified Mindfulness system, which is currently used in major research on meditation at places like Harvard and Carnegie Mellon, to offer people very clear instructions as well as tremendous flexibility. So, this system is known for both its precision and its adaptability.
An opportunity to give love and support to Rev Brendalyn
Rev. Brendalyn fell and broke her kneecap. She had surgery Saturday, June 19th.
She’s in very good spirits and asks that you send healing thoughts and prayer energy her way.

If you want to also offer her tangible support during her 10-week recovery, please contact her directly at brendalyn@unitysantafe.org or 505-577-7573 and she will include you on her list of wonderful beings who are willing to offer personal sacred service to her.
When she has a specific need she will send a "blind cc address list" email and you can respond just to Rev Brendalyn via email or text 505-577-7573. She will then let the rest of the group know the need has been filled.
She mainly needs occasional help with transportation, a few grocery items, and other errands that will undoubtedly come up!

More urgent needs as her house sale is closing today, 6/30. Professional movers moved furniture to her new condo on June 29th. She will need additional packing, moving and unpacking support beyond what the professional movers will be doing including unpacking small boxes through the first week of July.
