Clearing Space for God: A Lenten Conversation Series

Meetings continue every Friday evening at 6:30 through March 22, in Leffler Living Room and on Zoom.

All are welcome to join us this Lent for a Conversation series called Clearing Space for God, designed with queer people in mind. You do not need to register, either join us in Leffler Living Room, or via the Zoom link below!

Join James Davidson and Michael Seewer each Friday evening in Lent as we explore and share sacred stories that celebrate otherness. We'll dig into these stories and discuss how they and we celebrate our special gifts as queer people, and reflect on how we move forward in the process of clearing space for God in our daily lives.

Interested in joining by Zoom? Click here to join via Zoom (meeting ID 854 1664 8917; passcode 569378). And click here to download the booklet. Questions? Contact Michael Seewer (mseewer@saintmarks.org).

Queer Conversations: Queering Climate Activism

Next event on Sunday, April 7 at 5:30pm in Leffler Living Room

At the next Queer Conversation, we will be joined by The Rev. Lisa Graumlich, former Saint Mark's Parishioner, newly ordained deacon (serving at Trinity Parish), and Dean Emerita of the College of the Environment at UW. She will lead us in a conversation themed around the article shared a few months ago, Queering Climate Activism. We will have refreshments starting at 5:30, and the conversation will start about 5:45. If you'd prefer to join us via Zoom, email Michael Seewer (mseewer@saintmarks.org) for the Zoom link!

Looking forward: at the Queer Conversation on May 5, we will be joined by Saint Mark's newest canon priest, The Rev. Canon Rich Weyls, for an informal conversation to get to know him better! Come and meet Canon Rich and learn about his journey from ordination in the Roman Catholic Church to The Episcopal Church, his marriage to his husband Mark in 2017 at Saint Mark's, and more.

SAVE THE DATE: Pride Month Forum on June 12

Save the Date! Mark your calendars for the evening of June 12 when Saint Mark's will host a Pride Month Forum in Bloedel Hall. Details of the forum are being planned, but this will be an event geared for the entire cathedral community to learn about why Pride is important to the queer community, and provide an opportunity for education and fellowship. We hope that as many people from the queer community at Saint Mark's as possible can join us, so please consider joining us!

Pride Month Planning Group

Pride month will be here before you can say "Work it, gurrrrrl!" We are already starting to think about activities and events, and will need people willing to help lead and coordinate things to join our discussions! Are you interested in helping? Please email Michael Seewer (mseewer@saintmarks.org) with subject PRIDE HELP and let me know!

News & Events from the Community

Notable Events from The Fishbowl

The Fishbowl is Uptown's newest gallery and event space designed specifically for QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists, creatives, and community members. Its mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment where underrepresented voices in the art world can flourish, connect, and co-create.

Two notable events coming up at The Fishbowl:

  • From the Margins: Inspired by Mary Oliver's 'Wild Geese', join us for 'Soft Animals' – a communal art show exploring our connection to our bodies and nature. Embrace the themes of self-acceptance, natural connection, and personal belonging in your art. March 8: opening reception (5-8pm); March 21: Uptown Artwalk+Market (5-8pm); March 29: closing reception (6-8pm)
  • Crowded Table Grief Writing Workshop: Grief, loss, and illness often cause us to feel isolated from the rest of the world. Our emotions, thoughts, and experiences feel too overwhelming and too burdensome to be honest about, and often those around us are unsure how to react when we share our hardest truths. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to show up with your full, authentic selves, and welcomed just as you are. We will be creating a safe container for our time together as we write and respond to prompts, poems, songs, and discussion. No prior writing experience required. Participants will be encouraged to share, but not required to. All are welcome! Saturday, March 23rd, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Click here to register.
Saint Mark’s Cathedral acknowledges that we gather on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People, who are still here, and we honor with gratitude the land itself and the life of all the Coast Salish tribes. [Learn more]
