L'ours

Large, carnivorous mammal with thick coat, limbs armed with claws, elongated muzzle; the adult male. Female (a bear), cub of the bear (a cub).
This eighteenth-century expression describes a person who does not mix with society, and who shows a somewhat boorish behavior. The wording "badly licked" means "badly brought up, uneducated". In the past, it was believed that cubs were not fully formed and their mother had to lick them in order for them to be fully completed. Thus, a "badly licked bear" is a person whose "training" in the rules of life in society has not been fully completed.
One should not use or take for granted a thing before having it in its possession. This expression comes from an old proverb: "it is not necessary to haggle the skin of the bear before the beast is dead". It means that one should not take for granted an advantage or a thing before being sure of being able to dispose of it.

Discover the rhythm and musicality of French with les Fables de La Fontaine.

5 Mondays, April 26-May 24
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Deceptively simple, captivatingly complex, the fables of Jean de la Fontaine constitute a profound meditation on the nature of power and powerlessness. They also provide excellent case studies for studying and practicing the prosody of French—that is, the qualities of rhythm and intonation that make French sound the way it sounds.

How far would you go for the one you love? For Samy Diakhate (Ahmed Sylla) it’s the top of Mount Everest. After professing his love for Nadia (Alice Belaidi) he gets rejected because she is after a commitment and someone serious, unlike the unemployed Samy. He soon says he loves her so much he’d climb Everest for a kiss and a deal is made (even if she didn’t believe him at the time) and Samy begins his journey to the summit of Everest despite not having any mountain climbing experience prior. His story is also the talk of the town and gains a large amount of media following.
