A quick note for those of you in warmer areas with a cold front moving through this week. We are seeing freeze/frost warnings for large areas of the US for Tuesday and/or Wednesday night.
If you have cannas sprouted and have a freeze forecast for this week, you can take a few easy steps to protect your new, tender shoots. Cover your cannas with a lightweight sheet at night. Depending on the height of the plants, you may be able to lay the sheet directly across your flowerbed. If your cannas (and other plants) are taller, you can add a few stakes to keep the new leaves from becoming bent.
Or, if you have cannas in containers, move the containers against your house and gently drape a sheet over them.
