Quick first aid tips + gift
Greetings!
April is Animal First Aid Awareness month.

We want to offer some basic tips from a holistic point of view. While any serious illnesses and injuries should be seen by a vet, there are things you can do from your home or on the road that can help your situation.

Also, we have a gift that you may not have gotten from us last year – a handy first aid kit checklist you can download.

First, 5 handy items to have in your first aid kit with quick tips:
  • Light Blue Towel, Blanket or Sheet – Yes, don’t leave home without it. Light blue is calming and in the event of illness, injury or trauma, this color can help. Place the fabric around the animal. How much you wrap depends on their situation and climate they’re in.
  • Rescue Remedy – This is a combination of 5 Bach flower essences that work beautifully together in emergency situations. They can create sense of peace and calm with your animal. This can be a life and death factor for an animal in serious condition. For some animals, even though their physical injuries are not life threatening, shock can kill them if their body shuts down. Rescue Remedy has the ability to help this from not happening. Kim has experienced this, even with an animal that should have died from physical injuries. If the animal is unconscious, you can place the drops on their gums, ears or paws to avoid going down their throat.
  • Lavender Essential Oil – Most people know that smelling this oil can be great for calming, which is safest way to offer aromatherapy. It can also provide topical pain relief for burns and help assist them and wounds to heal. We have not had any issue with applying to dogs and horses. Use therapeutic grade oil. You can dilute this in a carrier oil such as jojoba oil, olive oil, fractionated coconut oil, etc.
  • Goldenseal Root – This herb can help to stop bleeding. You can open a capsule to apply to a bleeding nail or wound. We’ve seen it work more quickly than styptic products. Goldenseal is an herb native Americans have used for many years.

  • 50-100 Remedy Homeopathic Kit – We’ve used our kits for our animals and families over the years. It’s ideal for acute illnesses and injuries. For instance, Arnica can help to stop pain, Apis can help to provide relief from stings, Aconite can be helpful for shock and snake bites (Lachesis for rattlesnakes), Hypericum for nerve injuries and Ledum for punctures.

Below is a checklist of additional things to consider having for your holistic first aid kit for your animals. Some items have multiple uses but all need to be used properly. We’ve also put this into a handy PDF document that you can download here Animal Holistic First Aid Kit.
