It's BRING YOUR OWN BAG LUNCH this month (June). I have a couple bottles of champagne, and I'll make a cake to share, but you just do you and come be a part of the fun with whatever you are working on! July's potluck will be back to our regular share, so use all of this lead up time to come up with something super tasty!

Once again I am behind the 8 ball, and as this is the third month in a row, I think we can call it an established pattern. Having realized how much I do every day that easily falls into the "have to" category, it was time to spend some time doing the things on the "want to" list. As it happens, sitting with the computer was in the former, and making things was in the latter. So while my communications have been skimpy, my creative output has been superb! 


Getting to learn the ins and outs of the peg loom has been a real joy. The photo above is of a wall hanging I made earlier in the month using 4 different churro fleeces. The image below is of a rug I just finished using a Gotland x Ramboullet fleece from the Santa Cruz mountains, and Icelandic lambswool from Lake City (Modoc County). I was thinking of Mark Rothko's "Brown and Gray (1969)" and Hiroshi Sugimoto's beautiful seascapes and it struck me how interesting and enriching it is in the 21st Century to be using a prehistoric weaving technique to create a modern rug while thinking about mid-20th Century abstraction. You can begin to see where I became distracted.

This first pegloom class is full, but there has been a lot of interest in a second one. I am thinking maybe at the end of August. I am also putting together a fun little hand sewing class to teach some basics of both construction and design, which will also be later this year. July will have Open Table on all Saturdays, but will otherwise be light on classes as I am spending the whole month learning how to use the long arm, how to make a sweater on a flatbed knitting machine, and how to tan sheepskins. Once I can get those under my belt, I'll be able to pass that knowledge on! As we get into Fall I am thinking of maybe a Design Your Own Knitted Shawl class. Anyone interested?

The dye flowers are starting to bloom! Every day I pick what's come up to dry for later. I am hoping to have a bit of our own shop grown to sell this year, along with the most excellent supply I get from Kay Antunez's Oz Garden. I like to sit out under the tree and knit while they grow away. Come join me with your project and enjoy a few minutes of peaceful making under the Magic Elm. I'm usually out there by 10:30 with my coffee and whatever I have on the needles.

What would WMW be without our Feline Employees? After a few months of tinkering we have finally got Bernard and Abigail on a shared diet that neither is allergic to. This means they both have a ton of energy, and want to be with everybody all the time. In the two years they have been here they have developed a very large fan group. There are many people who come to visit with them, and the cats show their love by demanding lap time and cuddles. Bernard is especially fond of Open Table and makes sure to visit with everyone. We frequently have visitors with allergies, and for that I am sorry, but these two more than pull their weight keeping us mouse-free, and me and their fan base happy. 



Well that's it for now. I am sure there will be updates between now and August. If they seem especially important I'll send out an email, but the best way to keep up is on our Facebook page, especially if I have to suddenly change our hours at the last moment, which happens from time to time.

Just starting out? Barbara will teach you the basics and get you going on your first scarf (which you must wear, even if it is wonkey). Already know a few things but are stuck on something new? Barbara is excellent at helping work through those spots and teaching you how to, as well. Just want to sit and crochet with others while soaking up crafting wisdom? That's the way we like it, too! Ongoing classes.

Open Knitting Class

July 3rd, 17th & 31st 10:30-12:30

Adrienne will be at the craft table downstairs to help you learn how to knit or to help work out that new technique you've been dying to try. All levels welcome. This is an informal, no pressure learning offering and a great way to get started!
