Dear Friends:

Hello everyone. This is a very quick email update, with information on events and other things happening around New Orleans.

The campaign is going GREAT. We are knocking doors and getting such great responses. I am so fortunate to know so many wonderful people through the work that I've done.

Fundraising is moving right along. The campaign's big expenses - mail and paid media - are coming up SOON. If you are thinking of donating, now would be a great time. If you are debating a larger donation ($1000-2500) but would like to discuss further, please respond here and I'll give you a call.

We are starting morning coffees at various French Trucks around town this Tuesday August 9 at 7:30am at the LGD location. We'll also be hosting an informal happy hour right across the street from there at Barrel Proof later this month. See graphics below for details.

Please message Alex (aperlman18@gmail.com) to go on our canvassing list, and Nicole (nicole@landry2019.com) if you're interested in hosting an event (coffee! happy hour! meet and greet!).

Governor Edwards signed two of my bills last week in a public bill signing. First was HB 160, which gives tenants protections from eviction after a natural disaster. After Hurricane Ida, many bad landlords in New Orleans and the bayou region tried to unlawfully evict their tenants.  It is nothing short of amazing that we were able to put into place a new law forbidding this behavior less than one year later.  HB 160 was the only bill featured in the Governor’s State of the State address, and it passed with bipartisan, unanimous support - not an easy thing to do in the Louisiana Legislature. I have filed legislation every year since being elected to enhance tenant protections, and to finally see such a big WIN in this difficult state was wild!

The governor also signed HB 516, which requires policies in public schools regarding attendance, child care, and breastfeeding for pregnant and parenting students. Both of these are excellent pieces of legislation that were widely supported by Democrats, Republicans, and the Governor himself. Thanks to Lift Louisiana for such huge support on this bill.

The Louisiana abortion trigger ban litigation is still ongoing. The case is now on appeal, and I will of course update you when I have more information. Nationwide, we had good news out of Kansas, where an anti abortion measure was defeated, but more worries from places like Indiana, which is set to ban all abortions.

Last week, I received the endorsement of the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO. My dad, who was a member of the Local 60, would be proud.

Stay hydrated!
