Michigan has been chosen by CMS as one of the 14 Comprehensive Primary Care+ (CPC+) regions nationally, and BCBSM's proposal, along with Priority Health's, has been provisionally selected within Michigan.  For payers, the next step is to submit a Memorandum of Understanding to CMS by September 1, outlining their Agreement to the terms of CPC+ participation.

An in-person workshop that will solely focus on CPC+, including eligibility assessment and application assistance is scheduled for August 30, 2016 from 8:30AM - 1:30PM at the Troy Somerset Inn. Practice Transformation Institute staff will be on hand to assist in these activities.  For an appointment call 313.909.9930

America's Opioid Epidemic Is Increasingly Harming Babies
United States Surgeon General Launches: Turn the Tide Rx
The office of the United States Surgeon General has launched a campaign to provide education and information on combating the opioid crisis in America. The campaign coincides with a tour by U.S. Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy and offers a new website (www.turnthetiderx.org) that features guidelines, treatment options
and other useful tools for safely prescribing and managing the use of opioid medications.

The website offers a section where physicians can submit a pledge to adhere to prescription guidelines and treat addiction as a chronic illness, not a moral failing. The MOA strongly encourages all doctors to take the quick and meaningful pledge to help fight the opioid problem in America.

Peru Medical Mission Update from Lt. Taran Silva

Peru Medical Mission Update from Lt. Taran Silva, MOA Student Trustee:

"What a trip this has been. We spent time in the city of Iquitos, treating patients at their local military hospital. We managed to see almost 2,000 patients over the course of 4 days. Then we hopped on a boat and rode it down the Amazon for a few hours to get to where we are now - the middle of the Amazon rain forest. We have been having fun taking a riverboat to rural villages along the Amazon River and treating patients right on the boat. I am learning a lot about medicine, Peruvian culture, and the healthcare system in Peru. It's been an incredible experience that is sure to make me a better osteopathic physician."
