Dear Jenifer,

I ran a bunch of errands on my way home from the shop this evening. I was feeling pretty proud of how efficient I’d been as I entered the house. To keep it rolling, I decided to quickly begin a load of laundry before heading upstairs. I separated the colors, tossed them in the machine, added detergent, closed the door, and pushed start. Too late in the process, I noticed something in the glassed in area in the door - the sort of bubble shaped area between the outside and the interior. So, first I want to know how a stink bug could get in there, and then where did it go, as it disappeared almost instantly. I’m now afraid to open the washer - how many times do you think I will have to rewash the load to get rid of the likely, lingering stink bug smell?!!!

I’m thinking of taking the rest of the evening real slow and easy - the heck with efficiency!

On Saturday (2-3-24) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. You will receive the first pattern and kit in the series, along with a bit of instruction, and shop news during the session. I can’t wait to share the fabrics for the new design - you guys are going to have wonderful quilts by the end of the year!

We would like to thank By Annie (and Free Spirit, too!) for sending the lovely pieces included in the Buttermere trunk show last week. The combination of exquisite fabric, and wonderful bag designs, made for a very special event. Their next effort is their LQS Contest. The contest was created to highlight the efforts of local quilt shops, and to give sewists an opportunity to share stories and comments about their favorite shop. You can vote only once for your favorite local quilt shop before this year’s contest ends (at the end of February). I hope you’ll consider us as an option for your vote. You can vote at LQSContest.com/vote or via their qr code in the shop.

QC Clearance Creation Contest ~

Do you ever wonder what everyone does with the fabric they purchase during our year end sale? In one of our earlier newsletters we invited everyone who had been at the sale to join us for a little contest, a challenge. Makers needed to include a piece they purchased at the year end sale (or lots of pieces) in a project of their choice, and then bring it to the shop by the last Saturday in January for display. We now have their creations in place so you can vote for a favorite when you next visit (the display will be in place for the next two weeks). There are prizes to be won by the makers, so I’m fairly certain they would love for you to take a look, and make a choice!

Game Day Super Sale

Sunday ~ February 11th ~ 12:00pm-4:00pm

Our celebration of the big day looks a little different! Your score will be 25% off all regular price, in stock merchandise when you visit on the 11th! The crowd here will look alot like the one later in the day in the stadium, but it will be worth joining in because everything from notions, to books, patterns, batting and fabric is included! Work on your game plan in advance, and you’re sure to enjoy a win! (If you are subscribed to our And Sew On newsletter, watch for additional details early next week!)

QC Quilt Builder Card Deck 3 Sew Along

We love seeing the blocks you are creating with the help of the cards in the third little Quilt Builder box. This week I made a few modifications to the blocks (some of you will be surprised to learn it took me all the way to week three before this happened!). I assembled the little half square triangles in the orange block in a different order than shown on the card, with the same result, but the star block I changed up a bit more. The four corners of the block should have been a pieced square in a square, but it made the block too “busy”. Keep in mind, you can change anything you would like as we go along, and just as important, don’t forget to enter the prize drawings for the series when you show your blocks during shop visits!

Class ~ Machine Applique

Saturday ~ February 17th ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Ruth Ann is a master applique artist and teacher (her version of the first block in our 2024 applique series, shown here, is a marvelous example of her work!). In this technique class she will focus on teaching the details of the technique as you create small sample pieces - everything from machine set up, to the required supplies, to a range of stitches that can be used for the technique. The pieces Ruth Ann’s students share are stunning, yours can be too!

Fee $24.00 (the supply list for the  class will be shared when you register)

Tilda’s Jubilee collection is almost here… Yes, it should have arrived for February 1st, but it is still on a truck. Please watch our Facebook and Instagram - they will be the first place we herald the collections arrival!!!

This seems like the right moment to mention, when the weather seems “iffy” you might want to call the shop before setting out. The hills in our area become treacherous very quickly! We try to share information about shop closings on social media, but an old fashioned call sometimes works best. Needless to say, if we don’t answer, we haven’t made it in!

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
