Dear Jenifer,

I bought a silver bracelet with the money from my first paycheck. That was a “while” ago, way back in high school. Next my grandmother gave me one, then my aunt, and it just continued from there. Most are tied to stories about where or when I found them (or maybe they found me…). Earlier this week I put on a fairly new one. Well, it’s new to me, but probably 1970’s vintage. The man who sold it to me couldn’t get the bangle style piece open, so I didn’t feel too bad about paying the very low price he was asking. I later figured out if you push on it just right it pops open. Usually it pops right open… When I went to bed the other night I couldn’t get it off. When I woke up (with a lovely mark on my arm from sleeping on it) I couldn’t get it off. I finally asked my sweetie for help. He couldn’t get it open either. He went off to find his glasses to take a closer look. Good thing I looked closely before he got back with them. I had put the bracelet on upside down. I now know it’s really well made, as all the pushing on it didn’t break the hinge!

I wish you a right side up kind of week!

On Saturday (8-27-22) those registered for our end of the month pieced sampler program will meet at 9:00am. A new block kit (free if you attend the session with your completed block from last month!), technique information, and show and tell will fill the hour session. It’s great fun to see how different the blocks look with all the different background choices!

Saturday also features the last session of our current Stash Management series. A new pattern, and new ideas will be shared during the meeting. The new series will begin on September 24th. Cross your fingers - at this point we can go back to our former (much larger!) group size - we would love to have everyone register for the series!

You guys are wonderful! Over the course of our two week summer pillowcase race, you turned in 2737 beautifully made pillowcases. Every single one will be used to brighten the room of a young hospital patient in Pittsburgh. Your efforts are appreciated more than you will ever know!

QC Fall Demo Day

Saturday ~ September 10th

On the second Saturday in September we will be offering a series of short demonstrations in the shop (well, hopefully inside and on the front sidewalk!). The plan is to offer two in each time slot. Not to worry, you will have time to move from spot to spot to see both. Topics will range from a hands on look at foundation piecing, to how to make a unique holiday ornament from two circles of fabric. The schedule for the day will be released on September 1st. Let us know if you would like to attend (that way we'll have enough goodies for everyone!), and keep your fingers crossed for sunny skies!

We’ve shared a quick look at many of the new holiday fabrics that have arrived in the shop (although nowhere near all of them!), but not many of the new fall pieces. It seems like the right moment to change that! In the Beginning’s Autumn, part of their “A Year of Art Series”, arrived today. The group includes a splendid digitally printed panel and stripe, and coordinating tone-on-tone prints in rich fall colors accented with deep teal. As the collection name implies, the prints truly are exquisite works of art. The company also sent a pattern that includes directions for three projects made with the fabrics. If you stitch quickly, you could add them to your decor before the leaves begin to fall!

Fabric $11.60 to $12.00 per yard, panel $9.00, pattern $8.00
