My youngest is working on costumes for a theater production. She sent an email asking the cast to use a tape measure to figure their measurements, and then get them to her (working during the pandemic calls for some different methods). You can imagine the responses… “Tape measure? Why would anyone have one of those?” She gave on the tape measure, then asking that they just send her their sizes. To her surprise, they couldn’t do that either. She got to the point where she begged for the most basic - small, medium or large! I’m thinking these are going to be pretty “interesting” costumes! Her take away from the interactions - all of us need to make sure our crowd knows how to wield a tape measure. And no, not the metal carpenters version…

Hope your week is filled with accurate measurements, and precise cuts!
Happy stitching,
Mary Beth
I’ve been working on the block-by-block packets that need to be ready for you this Saturday. These projects are so much fun! If you are registered, you will find your Pieced Saturday Sampler (Bright Hopes), Halloween Figs, and Dear Jen packets ready when you arrive this Saturday, March 6th. Each of these projects offers lots of chances to work on your quilting skills, while creating a splendid piece!
You may want to visit on March 20th. Not only is it the first day of spring, it is also National Quilting Day. Spring patterns, and fabrics will be front and center, and we will share special goodies to mark the day. I am literally counting the days till then!
Monday was a banner day for new fabric arrivals! Boxes came from Benartex, In the Beginning, Island Batiks, and Free Spirit. And when I say boxes, I don’t mean one or two little ones - fifteen huge ones!!!
The new Island batiks have been worked right into the batik section. Each bolt features subtle, hand printed images in rich bright color. The new additions help to fill out the blue and green sections (and now that I think about it, added to the reds and yellows, too).
Fabric $11.80 per yard

The bulk of the boxes were stuffed with 70 bolts of Kaffe Collective prints - the entire February 2021 release! From large floral designs, to the iconic shark tooth, feather, and button pieces, they’re all here. The vibrant range of colors required reworking the entire section - talk about a dream job - an entire day spent arranging every single print!
Fabric $12.00 per yard
If you are wondering what to do with the new Kaffe prints, I have just the book! We ordered Donna Robertson’s newest 3-Yard Quilts book as soon as she let us know it was ready. “Quilts in a Jiffy” features eight more of her delightful designs, each requiring only one yard each of three fabrics (for a throw size quilt - she now gives instructions for larger versions as well!). Three of the designs are shown in the Kaffe prints that just crossed the threshold! Donna’s directions are always very easy to follow - clearly written and illustrated. Button box, making use of one of the newest Kaffe button print colors as it’s background, is my next project!
Book $16.00

Also new on Monday was a package from our friend Sue Cook. She has started designing patterns once again, and we are very excited to share her newest, Shimmer. The striking small pieced quilt makes use of ombre solids, a tiny black and white stripe (which is on order and should be here soon) and a black background. Talk about a fantastic use of the ombre solids!
Pattern $10.00
