Steven King Makes the Case for
Port Infrastructure Investment
Quonset’s Managing Director Steven King provided testimony at a recent R.I. House Finance Committee hearing in support of Gov. Raimondo’s $20 million bond measure to fund upgrades to Quonset’s Port of Davisville.

This bond measure will finance part of the Port Master Plan, creating the capacity for increased offshore wind logistics and staging while maintaining the infrastructure to continue the booming international auto import business.

North Kingstown’s State Representative Julie Casimiro also testified for the bond.

“Like Quonset, Davisville is a Rhode Island success story, supporting over 1,500 Rhode Island jobs,” Rep. Casimiro said in her testimony. “As you know, the port is one of the Top 10 auto importers in North America, and has broken its record for imports in 11 of the past 12 years. Based on Quonset’s proven record of success, it is clear that this investment in the Port Davisville is well worth making – and I urge your support.”

Goods iQ Calls Quonset Home
Goods iQ is the latest innovative company to set up shop at Quonset Business Park. Formerly known as Amax Incorporated, they recently re-branded and moved into new offices in Quonset’s Gateway district.

Goods iQ is a global leader in the development, manufacturing, and distribution of office, academic, industrial, and consumer goods. The next phase of their growth includes moving towards e-commerce and manufacturing their products in Rhode Island. Several factors contributed to Quonset’s selection as the site of the companies planned expansion:

  • Quonset’s size allowed Goods iQ to plan for future hiring and acquisition of new brands. Their corporate headquarters was designed by in-house Quonset architects and includes beverage taps, a gourmet kitchen, stand-up desks, and plenty of collaborative space.

  • Quonset’s location makes it easy for remote employees and customers to come and go efficiently. Quonset is only 15 minutes from T.F. Green Airport, which offers flights around the country. A TownePlace Suites by Marriott is located at Quonset, near their headquarters. Rhode Island is also home to 12 colleges and universities, providing access to local educated talent.

  • Quonset has the public amenities to foster Goods iQ’s innovative, creative culture. With access to four public beaches, a bike path, and an 18-hole golf course onsite, Quonset provides everything needed to keep employees energized.

National Grid, QDC Teaming Up to Offer Energy Efficiency and Future Savings to Quonset Businesses
The Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) and National Grid are working together to improve energy efficiency and sustainability across Quonset Business Park. The initiative follows a recently signed non-binding MOU aimed at increasing energy savings for Quonset businesses of all sizes and types.

QDC and Quonset businesses have long been leaders in efficiency and sustainability. The Business Park’s offices currently run on 100% renewable energy. Directing attention to businesses throughout the park, the new agreement provides businesses at Quonset access to enhanced incentives and technical services to identify and implement energy-savings projects. Over the three-year agreement, QDC and National Grid are targeting a 3% annual reduction in energy use across the Business Park.

Quarterly workshops on energy issues and technologies are scheduled to help businesses and share best practices. For example, National Grid experts will present on Finding No and Low Cost Energy Efficiency Measures on May 14th. The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in the QDC Annex Building. In addition to energy efficiency, QDC and National Grid will collaborate on related issues such as electric vehicles and demand response.

Businesses within the Park who wish to participate can contact National Grid’s Andrea Moshier . More Information on National Grid’s programs for businesses is also available by clicking here .

Quonset’s Site Readiness Program
Set to Become Statewide
The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation recently instituted a new grant program to fund projects across the state and streamline the municipal-development process. This grant program is modeled after Quonset’s successful Site Readiness Program, which provides development-ready sites where companies can break ground within 90 days of gaining site control.

Quonset company Rhode Island Fast Ferry was recently awarded almost $30,000 to pursue an expansion of its offshore wind services under the program. The grant will fund one-third of the permitting costs from the Coastal Resources Management Council, the Department of Environmental Management and Army Corps of Engineers.
