August 2020 Newsletter
Dear Friends,

Despite the doom and gloom of news headlines, we live in a time of incredible opportunity, in the greatest country on Earth. Now is the time we must work together to keep the American experiment alive.

This month, Governor Murphy signed the ‘New Jersey COVID-19 Emergency Bond Act’ authorizing the state to borrow up to $9.9 billion in light of the fiscal crisis imposed by the pandemic. This plan will place a surcharge on your property taxes for decades, without voter approval.

A lawsuit launched by the Republican State Committee seeking to invalidate a bonding proposal signed will be heard before the New Jersey Supreme Court this month. Chief Justice Stuart Rabner issued an order moving the suit into the high court’s jurisdiction that also put the legal action on the fast track. Oral arguments are set to begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5.

I will never stop fighting for this state and the values in which I have always believed. The world may be changing at a rapid pace, but we are still a great state and it is up to us as lawmakers and leaders in New Jersey to make sure of that.

Message from the Assemblyman:

We are so proud of Officers Helmer and Hubbard. Allendales hometown heroes saved a life. A patron from Park Ridge was choking and the officers sprang into action, performing CPR to revive her.

Police were able to revive a young boy who was unresponsive at the township's YMCA Friday. The 3-year-old was being treated by YMCA staff when they arrived and found him not breathing and cyanotic, or with a blue discoloration of the skin. Officers Robert Schlossberg and Michael Scalise performed CPR on the boy, and he began breathing on his own again shortly after.

The Murphy administration and NJMVC was just as ill equipped to open, as NJDOL was to handle resident’s unemployment claims. Solutions were proposed in advance of opening and new jerseyans are still waiting for hours and it is unacceptable.

Assemblywoman Dunn, Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso and myself have introduced MVC bills. See below.

  • A4326 calls for the MVC to designate and appoint examiners that are licensed to operate drivers’ schools to conduct the road test required to obtain a driver’s license.

  • A4327 requires the MVC to permit a licensed motor vehicle dealer to facilitate the issuance of a certificate of ownership and certificate of registration for a used motor vehicle that is purchased by private sale if the vehicle is to be registered in New Jersey.

Finally, my staff and I have received several queries about unemployment during the pandemic. Below are some helpful resources:
