A Message from the Assemblyman:
|
|
Dear Friend,
Thank you. I am truly humbled to have received such overwhelming support on Election Day. I’ve said this plenty of times before and I mean it sincerely, it is a true honor to represent you in Trenton. I am grateful to be able to serve you for two more years and look forward to being sworn in on January 14, 2020.
During my campaign for re-election, my running mate, Assemblyman Chris DePhilllips, and I met with countless residents to learn about issues impacting them and their families. However, there were a few that we heard in all four of the counties we represent: affordability and infrastructure. I will continue being a loud voice in Trenton to improve affordability, grow the economy, make our state more attractive to business, and to make more investments in our infrastructure including NJ Transit.
As we conclude the holiday season, I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy time with your loved ones and
give back to those less fortunate
in our communities. Our
Spotlight
feature this month highlights the Wayne Hills High School football team for naming Four-Year-Old Zach Galasso as honorary captain.
I hope you enjoy this month's edition of
Quorum Call
and wish you and your family a happy and healthy New Year.
Sincerely,
Kevin J. Rooney

Crispy Brussels Sprouts
- 3 ounces oyster sauce
- 1.5 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 2 teaspoons of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoon canola oil
- 1.5 pounds of brussels sprouts, halved
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 pound cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 2.5 tablespoons sliced shallots
Instructions
- Using medium bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, garlic, ginger and sesame oil. Cover and set aside
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Using a large oven proof saute pan over medium to high heat, heat the canola oil. Add the brussels sprouts, cut side down and saute until golden brown. Transfer to oven and roast until crispy, stirring occasionally, about 25 minutes.
- Using a large saute pan over medium to high heat, heat the olive oil. Saute mushrooms and shallots until golden brown. Add the soy-ginger sauce, reduce heat to low and simmer 1 minute. Be careful not to reduce the sauce or it will get too salty. If this happens, adjust with a little water or stock. Add the brussells sprouts, tossing to coat.

NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH
National Mentoring Month is an annual designation observed in January. This month, focus on how we can all work together to increase the number of mentors to make sure young people in our communities have dependable people to look up to and follow in their footsteps. NMM celebrates mentoring and the positive effect it can have on young lives. Its goals are to:
- Raise awareness of mentoring in its various forms.
- Recruit individuals to mentor, especially in programs that have waiting lists of young people.
- Promote the rapid growth of mentoring by recruiting organizations to engage their constituents in mentoring.
NATIONAL BLOOD DONOR MONTH
January is the beginning of a new year and the perfect time to start the year celebrating National Blood Donor Month.
Due to increased seasonal illnesses during the winter months and inclement weather conditions, donations of blood and platelets decline and demand increases. The American Red Ross and Blood Banks of America encourage everyone can donate to continue their donations. Those who have never donated, to make an appointment. Blood donation is safer than ever before and saves lives. Millions of people including cancer patients, organ recipients, and victims of accidents; rely on blood donations from people like you and I.

Four-Year old, Zach Galasso, becomes Captain of the Wayne Hills Football Team
|
|
One look at Zach Galasso, with his precocious personality and delightful smile makes everyone around him feel a little better. And for Zach’s parents, and older sister, they wouldn’t have it any other way.
Zach is a 4-year-old resident of Wayne, who had the chance to share a special night with his favorite high school football team: the Wayne Hills Patriots. For the game, he was named an honorary captain. The youngest of two children born to Sharon and Marc Galasso, Zach has Down Syndrome. But that’s completely

irrelevant to those closest to him, as well as the Patriots, who enjoyed their time with Zach during last Friday’s home game, against West Milford, which Hills won, 37-0. Zach was one of five team captains, joining Nick Lucarello, Gabe Kuhn, Jack Woodard and Christian Puntolillo, on the field for the coin toss, prior to Wayne Hills’ game against West Milford. Zach knows Lucarello, and felt comfortable hanging out with Nick during the coin toss.
The Wayne Hills football Booster Club donated its half of the weekly 50-50 to Zach’s Walk. The team name for the annual walk is ‘The Zach Attack’.
