Issue 36
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Fisher Families,

I hope each of you is well and looking forward to the busy, final weeks ahead. It is amazing that we are in the home stretch and summer is so close.

One of the usual markers of the end of the school year is Open House. Unfortunately, we are not able to hold a traditional Open House this year due to COVID restrictions. And, for the better part of the year, you all were able to see, on a daily basis, your child’s instruction and learning. It truly has been a year like no other. To commemorate this annual milestone, students were asked to create a slidedeck to share with their families that includes personal points of pride and reflections on the year. Please ask your child to share this with you and enjoy our Non Open Open House.

Thank you for your continued support of Fisher! I appreciate it greatly.

Take care and stay well.

Mary Lonhart
Principal
IMPORTANT INFO ON HOW TO RETURN YOUR BOOKS AND MATERIALS TO FISHER
Please review the information below regarding the return of your student's materials. This is very important so that Fisher can do a proper inventory and get ready for next year!

Returning School-Owned Textbooks, Chromebooks and Library Books
We will be collecting school-owned materials during the last two weeks of school through students' classrooms.

Textbooks
  • On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 26-28, we will collect all Algebra, Geometry, French and Spanish textbooks, and all English novels. Students should bring these to their classrooms on the day those classes meet.
  • On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 1-3, we will collect all History textbooks. Students should bring those books to their history classrooms on the day that class meets.
  • Library books and any other materials can also be returned to the drop box outside the Fisher Library any time students are on campus.

Chromebook Loaners
  • On Wednesday, June 2nd, on-campus students who have borrowed Chromebooks from Fisher will return them in their classrooms.  Please return the Chromebook charger if you borrowed one.
  • 8th graders who would like to donate their Chromebook for reuse can do so at this time.

Returning Materials for Zoomers
Zoomer students may return textbooks, Chromebooks and any other school-owned materials on Wednesday, June 2nd from 12 pm to 4 pm in front of the Fisher main office.

Chromebook Donations
Fisher collects and repurposes old Chromebooks that students are no longer using. Some donations will be used on Fisher's campus and some will be donated to underserved schools in need of working devices. Graduating 8th graders who want to donate their Chromebooks can turn them in using the schedule listed above.

The cost is $20 per sign and you will also receive a stand to place the sign in your yard.

Please note that we are not offering these signs for profit and we are supporting a local business for the purchase.

This is meant to be an inclusive celebration, so if this is not in your budget right now, please reach out to Principal Mary Lonhart at mlonhart@lgusd.org.
CHROMEBOOKS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE!
Parents who need to purchase an LGUSD-provisioned Chromebook for their child can do so through our partner vendor, Central Computers. After some COVID-related supply chain hiccups, they have plenty in stock for families who weren't able to purchase earlier this year. Purchase, loaner, and repair information can be found on our website. As a reminder, all Fisher students should be using an LGUSD-provisioned Chromebook. Contact chromebooks@lgusd.org with any questions.

PARCEL TAX INFORMATION AND SURVEY
Over the summer, the LGUSD Board of Trustees is exploring renewing local funding for our schools by placing a parcel tax renewal measure on the November 2021 ballot. As the District considers this process, the Board would like parents to take this survey to share your priorities for LGUSD schools. More information about this process can be found at lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.

LIBRARY CORNER
Summer Reading with the Fisher Library

Current 6th and 7th graders (who are returning to Fisher next year): You are invited to participate in the Fisher Library's Summer Reading program. Students can earn Spirit Points in all sorts of ways, but all you really have to do is read!

Summer Reading participants may request up to 10 books from the Fisher Library to check out for the summer. We'll deliver them to your classroom if you're here on campus, or we'll have them available to pick up on the last week of school. Books will be due back on the first day of school, and we'll celebrate with a party and a raffle for all Summer Reading participants. Of course you can also read books from the public library, a local bookstore, or your own TBR pile.

Sign up here or visit the Fisher Library website to learn more. Contact Ms. Bateman at abateman@lgusd.org with any questions. Happy reading!

Special Note:
All library materials not checked out for the Summer Reading Program must be returned by Friday, May 21st. Books can be returned at curbside drop-off on Wednesdays from 2-3pm and Fridays from 8-9 am outside the Fisher main office, or in the drop box in front of the library whenever students are on campus.
