Dear Families,
Our Spirit Week and Club Fair were great successes! Thank you to Brooke Binkley and her Leadership students for their hard work and organization of our Spirit Week. With a surprise flash mob dance at the end from our Dance students and Wendy Meyer, it was a great end to a fun week.
The Club Fair saw over 400 students sign up for at least one club. Thank you to Clare Vickers for her organization of the productive event. Thank you also to our Club Advisors and Student Leaders for supporting these activities for our students! We look forward to our Clubs meeting regularly throughout the year!
We ended the week with a beautiful outdoor concert that included our entire Fisher music program: choir, band and strings. Thank you to our music educators: Aryn Krijnen, Corey Miller and Jenny Anderson. We enjoyed sitting outside, learning more about our music classes, and hearing the wonderful music our students created.
TikTok continues to pose challenges for our students. Last month, the challenge posed to students included bathroom vandalism and theft. Unfortunately, at Fisher, we saw the direct effects of this challenge. Please know that the Month of October TikTok suggestion is “Slap a Teacher.” We have adjusted our Behavior Focus for the week to be “Please Keep Your Hands to Yourself.” We will be sharing messages with our students through our Daily Announcements about personal space, keeping your hands to yourself and that this type of behavior could be considered assault. We would appreciate your support at home regarding this concern.
It is hard to believe that this Friday is the end of our first quarter! Be on the lookout for your student’s report card. It will be emailed to you on Friday, October 15th. Please contact your child’s teacher directly if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s report card.
Thank you for your continued support!
Take care and stay well.

THE WESLEY K. WALTON EMPATHY AWARD
|
|
The Wesley K. Walton Award recognizes the Student Success Profile attribute of empathy.
This award is given each year to a graduating eighth grader who has demonstrated extraordinary service to Fisher Middle School and the community. Anyone who has been active in student government, supported school activities, participated in sports or music, and/or been a member of a religious institution’s youth group, or scouts, will be considered for this award. Most importantly, however, this student understands how to negotiate and balance diverse views and beliefs to reach workable solutions. This student creates environments or conditions that empower others to grow and succeed, they build relationships with others through trust and compassion, and take responsibility for their part of a team project and by doing so, empower others to do their part.
Please note: 8th graders are invited to apply for the Wesley Walton Empathy Award. No nominations are needed.
Thank you for encouraging your students to subscribe to service above self. See the section below about our service hours program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Clare Vickers at CVickers@lgusd.org.

SERVICE HOURS ARE BACK!
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
|
|
RJ Fisher Middle School is excited to bring back service above self, and encourage our students to volunteer inside and outside of our Los Gatos community. In past years, students were encouraged to serve 60 hours over their duration at Fisher. Due to COVID, we placed this tracking on hold. We are happy for our students to get back to giving this school year. This is not mandatory in any way; serving others is strictly voluntary.
We are tying the act of service into our Student Success Profile attribute of empathy. Research shows that students who volunteer report to be happier, have more friends, and earn good grades. As such, volunteerism is an asset that we want to foster in all of our students. If an 8th grader completes 20 hours of service this school year, they will receive a helping hand on their promotion certificate.
Please look to future Wednesday flyers to learn about service opportunities that will be available for our students.
