R. Scot Evans Named Creative Director of Green Is the New Blue
New Environmental Organization Helps Horse Shows
Become More Eco-Friendly

New York, New York – December 10, 2019 – Green Is the New Blue , an environmental organization launched in early 2019 with the mission of helping horse shows become “greener,” has appointed R. Scot Evans as its new Creative Director.
Evans has an extensive background in the equestrian world. He was a founding board member of the Equestrian Aid Foundation and served several years as its president. He has been an “R” judge in the hunter, jumper, and equitation disciplines for many years, judging such major events as the ASPCA Maclay Finals. He has worked in Sponsor Relations for Stadium Jumping, Inc. and the Hampton Classic and is also a well-known and respected trainer and clinician.
 
Green Is the New Blue was founded by Stephanie Riggio Bulger, an amateur rider with many years on the hunter-jumper circuit. Bulger came up with the idea after trying to find a spot to graze her horse at a horse show and couldn’t find any grass that was not littered with debris. Also noticing that there were no recycling bins or options to fill reusable water bottles or coffee cups at the horse show, she became dismayed, but more importantly inspired.
 
That motivated Bulger to create Green Is the New Blue which focuses on helping horse shows reduce waste and promote sustainability. In addition to educating horse show staff, riders, trainers, vendors, and spectators on the simple, but effective, ways they can make a difference, the organization provides tools to horse show managers to help make it easy to implement changes.
 
“Our goal with Green Is the New Blue is to affect change in the horse show industry,” said Bulger. “We are looking to lead the way and demonstrate best practices and environmental stewardship to horse shows, equestrian facilities, and individual farms as well as assist them in adopting practices that can have a real impact on protecting our world. We want to help educate horse show managers and give them the resources and tools they need. This is really something that is on people’s minds right now. They want to be able to do something, and hopefully a program like this can help them take steps that will make our horse shows more environmentally responsible.

In its first year, Green Is the New Blue successfully launched programs at several partner horse shows including the Upperville Colt & Horse Show, Brandywine Horse Shows, Aiken Charity Horse Show, Pennsylvania National Horse Show and Washington International Horse Show. Plans are already underway to greatly expand this list in 2020 as well as to share the mission with equestrian facilities throughout the country.”
