LHS Students Selected for
South Central MO Music Educators Association District Honor Band

On Saturday January 18th, twenty five students from Lebanon High School participated in the South Central Missouri Music Educators Association district honor band.  Students were selected after auditioning in November and met for a four hour rehearsal on January 11th.  They then spent all day on the 18th working with clinicians Linda Huck from Farmington and Doug Hoover from Parkway Central.  Both the district concert band and honor band rehearsed hard for over six hours and performed exemplary concerts for parents and band directors.  Congratulations to these students on a job well done!

BOSWELL ELEMENTARY RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT

Lowe's Donates Money for Outdoor Volleyball Court/Physical Education Area

From left, Lowe's employees Bob Mowery, Christine Perryman and Renee Westbrook present the Toolbox for Education Grant to Boswell Principal Lael Hyde and Aleah Helton, Title 1 secretary, who submitted Boswell's grant application.

Boswell Elementary has received a $5,000 Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant for an Outdoor Volleyball Court and Physical Education Area.

We are thrilled to announce that Lowe's has awarded Boswell Elementary funding for an Outdoor Volleyball Court and Physical Education Area. Our grant application was based on the goal of improving physical education opportunities at Boswell. We look forward to sharing the finished project with the Lebanon community upon completion.

At Boswell we value physical fitness, and seek to allow every student the opportunity to take part in activities that encourage being physically fit. We have had students express interest in a volleyball court, and we know our students are at the age when they are exploring which sports and activities which best suit them. Research has shown that participation in sports and physical fitness activities raises self-esteem in children; and students who link into a school activity are more likely to stay in school. As educators, we know that decreasing the drop-out rate starts by planting seeds when students are young.

Since installing other sports areas on our playground (soccer, kickball, etc), students have been more engaged in group activities during recess times, and have thus formed stronger relationships with their peers - helping to solidify connections and, again, plant the seeds to lower our future drop-out rates. With the addition of a volleyball court, not only will we be adding another activity area to our playground to encourage physical activity during recess time, but we will also be allowing students the opportunity to explore this sport in a fun environment. Students will also learn how to interact with one another in a positive manner, as well as, learning the valuable lessons that come from competition and group sports. Our Physical Education instructor will build lessons to teach proper volleyball rules and techniques, thus ensuring that all 645 Boswell students will use the court during PE times. This will also ensure that all students know the proper way to use the court.

We wish to thank Lowe's for their continued commitment to education, and our community.

Do You Have a Student Planning to Attend College This Year?

Attend the LHS FAFSA Frenzy  for Assistance with Financial Aid Forms

Planning to attend college this year? Need help with the Free Application for Federal Aid (FAFSA)?  Attend the upcoming FAFSA Frenzy event on Sunday, February 9, from 2-4 pm at Lebanon High School!

This event allows students and their parents to meet one-on-one with financial aid advisors who will be available to assist with filling out required financial aid forms.  Representatives from Ozark Technical Community College-Lebanon Campus, Drury University-Lebanon, along with counselors from LHS and LTCC will be available to answer questions and assist in the FAFSA process.

It's easy!  Plus, students can enter for a chance to win a scholarship for the fall 2014 term.  Winners must enroll in a postsecondary program in Missouri.

If you plan to attend, you need to bring:

  • 2013 W-2 forms.
  • Copies of your 2013 tax forms, if they are ready, for both  the student and the parents. If you have not yet filed your 2013 returns before you attend a 2014 FAFSA Frenzy event, be sure to bring any statements of interest earned in 2013, any 1099 forms, and any other forms required to complete your taxes. This will allow you to submit your FAFSA online during the event you attend. You will then need to go back to the FAFSA and submit corrections once tax returns are filed. The IRS Data Retrieval Tool should be available to help submit your corrections accurately within a few weeks after your tax file date.
  • Student PIN and parent PIN. You may apply for your PINs at www.pin.ed.gov before attending the FAFSA Frenzy.

For more information, contact your student's counselor at 532-5796.
