Rancho Mirage Has Highest Vaccination Rate in Coachella Valley!
The current vaccination rates for the Coachella Valley are approximately 76% of the population being either partially or fully vaccinated. Vaccination rates by city as of August 16, 2021 are listed below:

Pfizer Vaccine Receives FDA Approval
On August 23, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.
Additional Vaccine Available for Immunocompromised
Those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised can now get an additional COVID-19 vaccine dose through mobile clinics run by Riverside County Public Health.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) strengthened requirements already in effect for mega events in the Beyond the Blueprint Framework, announcing that proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before an event starts, will be required for indoor gatherings of 1,000 or more participants/spectators.

Beginning September 20 through November 1, 2021, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test will be required for indoor events of 1,000 or more and strongly recommended for outdoor events with 10,000 or more attending. Face Covering Recommendations & Requirements
The California Department of Public Health, Riverside County Public Health, and Desert Healthcare District:

  • Recommend: All individuals, regardless of their vaccination status, wear face coverings in indoor public settings.
  • Require: Unvaccinated individuals to wear face coverings indoors.

California public health officials have aligned with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, which recommends face coverings for everyone indoors in areas with “high” or “substantial” COVID-19 transmission. 

The announcement by the California Department of Public Health is a recommendation, not a mandate.
The Rancho Mirage Library will be closed from August 30 to September 21, 2021 for flooring renovation.

The Sept. 14 election is a countywide election. Registered voters in all areas of the county are eligible to cast votes in this election. For questions about your eligibility to vote, contact the registrar’s office at (951) 486-7200.

Below is a list of important deadlines for the Sept. 14 election:
  • Sept. 7 – Last day the registrar may accept mailed requests for vote-by-mail ballots. After Sept. 7, voters must go to the registrar’s office to request and pick up a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters who have requested but not received a vote-by-mail ballot by Sept. 7 should contact the registrar’s office at (951) 486-7200.
  • Sept. 11 – First day of voting at polling places.
  • Sept. 14 – Election Day
