What's New for Vaccinated California Workers
Last week, Governor Newsom issued an executive order to clear up any confusion and debate over how California should regulate its workplaces to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, even as case numbers remain low.

Fully vaccinated Californians do not have to wear masks or practice social distancing at their workplaces, under the state’s new COVID workplace safety rule approved by a Cal-OSHA board on June 17, 2021.

  • Fully vaccinated employees do not need to:
  • Be offered testing or excluded from work after close contact unless they have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Wear face coverings except for certain situations during outbreaks and in settings where CDPH requires all persons to wear them.
  • Employers must document the vaccination status of fully vaccinated employees if they do not wear face coverings indoors.
Cal/OSHA’s revisions align with the latest guidance from the California Department of Public Health – based on guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – on face coverings and eliminate physical distancing requirements, except for certain employees during outbreaks. Unless they show symptoms, fully vaccinated employees do not need to be offered testing or be excluded from work after close contact with a COVID-19-positive person.
