Prevent & Identify Scams
With the recent uptick in phone scams, here are a few tips to help identify and prevent this from happening to you.

  • Scammers not only ask for money to be wired, but also gift cards. Gift cards are huge in the scammer "community" as it replaces money wiring now that Western Union and other agencies are more aware of the scams perpetuated through money wiring.
  • Report scams to the FBI, it's a tracking tool for scams.
  • Victims can also contact the APS hotline number 1 (800) 491-7123, if they have been victim of a scam and need assistance.
  • Phone spoofing is a means to deceive the victim(s). This is where the scammer uses a device to make it look like they are calling from another number.
  • Never share personal information on social media such as names of family members, addresses (even cities) or when leaving on vacation.
Grandparent Scams

Phone, email, text messages, and social media are all tools these scam artists use to trick you out of your money.

During the pandemic, FBI officials have warned of increased grandparent scams as crooks play on emotional vulnerability and heightened fear about loved ones falling ill.
To learn more about this and other scams,
AARP has a plethora of information on their website to help protect yourself and your loved ones from becoming a victim of a scam:
