LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE

Human Leadership Is What AI Cannot Do

Machine learning can revolutionize decision-making, but it cannot replicate the instinctive judgment, lived wisdom, or human connections that define great leadership. AI isn't replacing leaders; it's revealing what leadership must become. The Center for Creative Leadership answers essential questions like how leaders build trust and what they must refuse to surrender to AI. Those who thrive will know where human capability creates irreplaceable value and where AI amplifies what humans alone cannot achieve.

Gen Z: A Challenge to Vertical Empathy

Ross Peters of EXPLOElevate calls on schools to redesign hiring and onboarding to build genuine human connection, invest in sustained dialogue, and practice "vertical empathy" when listening to and understanding Gen Z as individuals. Defined as the practice of emotional, cognitive, and compassionate empathy across hierarchical levels between leaders and those they lead, vertical empathy goes further than clear communication. Getting to know young teachers to see beyond Gen Z perceived weaknesses is critical to supporting their success.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Teaching in the Age of the Shortcut

Global Online Academy outlines three phases of student use of AI. Phase 1, substitution, is where students bypass thinking entirely. Phase 2, collaboration, is where AI accelerates and refines their own cognitive work. Phase 3, critical investigation, is where students interrogate AI's reasoning and biases. Most classrooms remain stuck in Phase 1. Meaningful learning happens in Phases 2 and 3 but getting there requires intentional lesson design, not tech avoidance.

Enrollment Is 70%+ of School Revenue. Why Aren’t We Starting Strategy There?

Enrollment drives more than 70% of independent school revenue, yet most strategic planning starts with programs and initiatives rather than enrollment realities. The result is that schools react to enrollment shortfalls instead of planning around them. Tom Sheppard with 20 More Students encourages schools to treat enrollment insight as a strategic foundation rather than a downstream concern so that their planning becomes more ambitious and more sustainable.
