Lake Huron Offers Christian Hospitality to Thousands
We are so thankful for the 94 groups who have been part of our ministry during 2019 here at Lake Huron Retreat Center. That translates into over 2,500 guests coming to the Center for worship, study, fellowship and rest. Many of our groups are repeat customers, but we also celebrate nine new groups who experienced our facility for the first time.
If you were one of those guests, thank you! Whether you attended one of our programs, or brought your own, you were a part of mission and outreach. Thanks be to God! I wanted to share with you some of our programs that are at the heart of our ministry. And read all the way to end of this newsletter to learn about our new Sabbath Rest personal retreats that will give you that one-night sabbatical you've been promising yourself.

Summer Time is Special Because of God's Treasures
It was a wonderful summer with two sessions of God’s Treasures Camp. We were at capacity with a total of 84 campers and 43 staff during the two sessions. This includes 12 new campers and 6 new counselors. Some of our campers come from a group home environment; others live with parents or another family member. Our counselors come from all walks of life – clergy, laity, retired, still working! These two weeks are truly a highlight of our entire year for the Lake Huron staff. Our 2020 sessions are nearly full (June 23-27and July 14-18). This is truly a valued ministry.
God's Treasures Winter Weekend Warms Our Hearts!
For the second year, we sponsored a winter retreat weekend for our God’s Treasures campers as well as their caregivers. This two-night retreat, held in February, is a time for us to get to know the families of our campers. Well staffed by committed volunteers, the weekend offered Bible stories, crafts, music and games – everything that makes for a great retreat. The next God's Treasures Winter Weekend is Feb. 14-16, 2020.
Lakeshore Interlude Gathers Seniors Around the Campfire
Formerly known as Elder Camp, this program for senior adults has been part of the history of the Lake Huron site for many years. Under the leadership of Pastors David and Carol Freeland, this group of adults enjoy a mid-week experience of study, worship and fellowship. The group enjoys a picnic supper and hymn sing around the campfire.   Lakeshore Interlude returns August 4-6, 2020.
Making a Joyful Noise at Choir Retreat
Choir members from a variety of congregations gathered for a 24-hour experience of rehearsal and fellowship in early September for Choir Retreat. In that short period of time, seven pieces of music were learned and presented at a public concert in Poole Chapel Saturday evening. Pieces cover the liturgical year and are suitable for choirs of any size. The September 11-13, 2020, Joyful Noise Choir Retreat will include a new optional Saturday night stay for those who desire some personal retreat time.
Michigan Conference Leadership Retreats
Each January, since the leadership of Bishop Linda Lee, the Cabinet has gathered here for a week in January. With reliable internet, good phone cell service, comfortable guest rooms and quality meeting space, groups such as this accomplish their goals of work, plus have time to enjoy conversations around the fireplace or a walk on the beach. We’re grateful to Bishop David Bard and the Michigan Area Cabinet for their continued support of our facility.
Everyone needs time to recharge. This sabbatical retreat experience, offered quarterly, is designed for you to use the time however needed. You may choose to spend time in scripture reading and prayer. Bring your journal. Experience quiet contemplation. Rest and renew your spirit as you walk along the Lake Huron beach or sit by the fireplace. Enjoy community fellowship during meals. Your time is your own!
