Reach4Life Now in 19 Police Stations!
This month Thandy reports, "Another successful month of ministry for all our four Reach4Life countries. More schools and prisons are fully operating now, and we have more access to our small groups. We've also sent Bibles to groups in Zimbabwe and Botswana. Covid is still a challenge in some areas, but things are getting much better."
In our previous newsletter we told you about a community event addressing gender-based violence (GBV) that Reach4Life was invited to attend. Connections were made with local police departments and Reach4Life is now in 19 police stations! Captain Lucky Lubengo (above), Dobsonville police station, says, “I know this program was made for the youth but you’ll be surprised how much it touches our lives also as adults. Here in our station we use R4L for devotions as we start our day and we also allow Peer educators to teach in our holding cells. Keep up the good work - this is a life changing tool.”

183 Peer Educators Trained!
In the month of February, 183 Peer Educators were trained in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, and Mozambique. God is providing committed young people who love to teach God’s Word. Not everyone who attends a training chooses to become a Peer Educator. However, the training provides a good platform for any leadership position they might have now or in the future. Pictured above is one of the trainings that took place in Soweto, Johannesburg. Lerato Nokwane, who is a senior facilitator, is kneeling front and center.

Mozambique Loves New Portuguese Reach4Life Bibles!
Loraine (left) says, “I am a Peer educator at Matola, Mozambique. Our work has grown so much since we have the Portuguese R4L Bibles. We are spreading to many villages through the requests of Pastors to come and train their youth on how to lead small groups. The program is loved by young and old. We are seeing lives transformed each week. We appreciate the subsidy we get to travel to different villages. I am happy to be part of the R4L Program.” Cocoa Mukhatine (right) says, "I just started as a Peer educator and I can see why this program is such a hit with the youth. It answers questions no one wants to tackle. It teaches deep truths, helping young people to know the difference from right and wrong.”

Peer Educators Connect with Community Leaders
In each community, the R4L team partners with local clinics, police, and social workers. In this Ladysmith training, a nurse was invited to teach on the subject of STI’s, and a policeman shared about local crime rates. This gives newly trained Peer educators an awareness of the need for their service, as many youth are facing challenging circumstances.

Peer Educator Thabisile (blue shirt) shares, "I used to just stay home and stress about life as an unemployed young adult. Few years ago I became a Peer Educator. My life is full of joy every day, watching kids give their lives to Christ and becoming better people because through R4L I contributed. I teach in 4 schools each week and I love the kids and all that God is doing in my community through the R4L Program.”

Next Pastor Training Manual is Completed
We have completed the second manual for pastor training, on “Christian Ethics.” This was a collaborative effort between Prevention Time and Emmanuel Nzama, who oversees pastor training and church planting in South Africa. The R4L program has expanded so far that it is becoming difficult to find good churches to connect kids with. New churches are being planted, often with Peer Educators serving as pastors. Many pastors also haven't had access to training materials. The biggest cost of these trainings is the printing of manuals. Pictured here is one page from the manual on the responsibilities of parents.

Muzi Maphumulo (second from right), 17, from Tholokuhle High School in Richards Bay, South Africa, reports, “I am a part of a R4L group in my school. I used to struggle with anger from a small age. I was always in trouble with the teachers for hitting other kids. But the R4L changed how I felt and saw things, I now look at life through the eyes of the word, not my feelings and emotions. My R4L Bible is my best teacher and adviser."

"I Have a Responsibility"
“My name is Gugu Lidwaba (left), I’m 19 years old and I am a newly trained PE. Teenagers are going through so many challenges, Media, peer pressure, broken families and our failing school systems especially in the townships. As a believer I have a responsibility to share the good news with others. R4L has been a great platform for that. I am excited and ready to teach."

"Our English Has Improved"
Simthandile Morafe, age 14, from Rustenburg, North West Province, says, "I am a fox peer educator. Everyday during break I sit with my friends and share the word, we discuss topics that are in the R4L book. My teacher says our English has improved since reading the R4L book. If I get difficult questions during our meeting I get help from our senior peer educators." We can see that her friends are enjoying going through the lessons with her.

Johannes (middle) says, I came out of prison two years ago. I had received Christ through the R4L Program inside prison. I attended a training and became a Peer Educator. Now I teach in 3 high schools in Randfontein JHB where I stay with my family. My own life has changed by the program, I have full confidence every time I walk into a classroom because I know His word will never return to Him void.”
Teacher Mrs. Zama Khoza shares, “Academics alone do not build a child. Our school has better behaving kids now since we welcomed R4L to come to our school. The Peer educators are great role models, thank you for serving our school.”
