Dear Students and Families,

Once the school year starts, it’s hard to step on the brakes, decelerate, and find time for deep work and reflection. And so it goes with parenting, working, and life in general. Amid the hurly-burly of schedules, events, and meetings, it takes an act of deep intention to step back and ask:

What are we doing? Where have we been? Where are we going?

At Kehillah, our faculty never loses sight of these big questions; they animate so much of the work we do in teams, task forces, and departments as we continually explore how to strengthen our educational program. A brief sample of our recent inquiries include:

  • How do we build a schedule that accommodates the unique rhythms of student learning – whether it takes place in the lab, studio, seminar, or through independent study?
  • How can we both identify and dismantle structures of exclusion and marginalization across all areas of school life so each child feels seen, heard, and valued?
  • How can we ground our approach to teaching and learning in research-informed best practices?

These important topics lead us to conferences, workshops, collaborations, and partnerships – at Kehillah and beyond. They produce an ongoing exchange of ideas that act as a seedbed for dynamic new initiatives. Most importantly, the work allows our faculty to model the value of lifelong learning, whose benefits redound to the entire community.

Kaylin Liang, Director of College Counseling and Jordana Bischoff, College Counselor, at the National Association of College Admission Counseling conference in Baltimore

In due time, we plan to share our progress on many of these topics with families while creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue and learning – Dr. Pellant's Book Club below is just one example!

Thanks for your support, and as always, please reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roy Danovitch

Associate Head of School
