250 Days for 250 Years: Why This Matters to Jewish Communities

Dear Colleagues,

I want to bring something to your attention that I believe is a genuine Kiddush Hashem, and an opportunity for your shul as well. I have written to you about it previously but now it is ready to launch.

Rabbi Andrew Shaw, who many of you know, has spent the last year building 250 Days for 250 Years, a national project to help Americans, and especially the next generation, understand the civic and moral foundations this country was built on. He recently appeared on The 700 Club to share it with a national audience.

Here is a 90 second look at what he has built: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/G1JBFulqbCc

And here is the full interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWpCVSgcTuA

I believe our members would get a great deal out of these books, both the learning itself and the chance to be part of something larger than themselves and connect to America as Orthodox Jews. But I also want to share something practical. For every book sold through your shul, ten dollars comes back to you, not to the 250 foundation, to your own shul, to support whatever programs or causes matter most to your community.

This is a rare thing: a chance to support a fellow rabbi doing something important for this country, to give your members something genuinely enriching to learn from, and to raise real money for your shul, all at once.

All you have to do is instruct your kehillah to go to https://www.250for250us.org/. Select Buy Books, decide how many they wish to buy, enter in the coupon RCA 10 and they will receive a 10% discount. Then, for every member that orders a book, you will receive $10 per book. So for ever 100 books in bought by your members, $1000 for your shul.

Day 1 of the project is Wednesday 28th October and Day 250 is July 4th 2027.

I encourage you to look into this and consider bringing it to your community for the benefit of your members AND your shul
