From the Desk of the Executive Vice-President | | |
Dear Chaveirim:
I hope your personal and communal preparations for Pesach are progressing well. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything I can assist you with or provide for the RCA membership as a whole. I'll, bli neder, share at least one idea for a Shabbos Hagadol Derashah in next week’s Wednesday email.
Here are a few important updates:
- Anti-Israel / Antisemitic Protests: Many of you have reported similar incidents in your neighborhoods. We'll convene on Zoom next week (date and time to be announced) to address this threat collectively.
-
Siyum for Daniel Perez, hy’”d: We mourn the loss of Daniel Perez, who was murdered defending our land and our people on October 7th. We share a special relationship with his father, Rav Doron Perez and his family, strengthened during the RCA missions to Israel last fall. We plan to hold the siyum mishnayos during a special moment at the upcoming convention. Please see below to sign up for the learning of mishnayos.
-
Focus Groups: Progressing well with the Executive Committee and beyond, these sessions aim to plan future steps for the RCA. More Zoom and in-person sessions will be scheduled after Pesach. If you'd like to participate, please inform R. Adam Dubin (adubin@rabbis.org). Your input is invaluable.
- Convention: The convention chairs are planning an unforgettable experience:
-
Rav Yosef Zvi Rimon, just named Nasi of World Mizrachi, will be our scholar-in-residence for the three days and will be available throughout o meet individually with rabbanim.
-
We have secured the presence of Dr. Zachery Raush, chief researcher for Dr. Jonathan Haidt new book: The Anxious Generation, outlining the challenges faced by children today and the need for communities to work together on behalf of them.
- Altuicity, an internationally known fundraising consulting firm will be presenting and will be available through the conference to advise rabbanim on their own campaigns and initiatives.
-
Please join us for as much of the convention as you can. New Yorkers – that might mean staying over for 1-2 nights. Your chaveirim from around the county would try appreciate it!
-
Maos Chittim: Directed towards those affected by the war, Barkai is providing an opportunity to assist to those in need: families of fallen soldiers, reserve soldiers facing financial distress due to lost income, evacuees, and more. In nearly 100 Barkai communities led by our trained rabbis, many individuals are in dire need of assistance. Please support them in celebrating Pesach joyously. Have a good Shabbos.

In preparation for Yom Hazikaron - the Day for Israel's Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Hostile Acts in Israel and the Diaspora, which will be held on Monday, the fifth of Iyar 5784, May 13, 2024, the World Zionist Organization and the Ministry of Defense have come together to promote a unique initiative of holding memorial ceremonies in Jewish communities worldwide. In this framework, content, prayers, reading material, personal stories and songs will be collected and distributed through one link, to allow the memorial ceremonies to be held according to the needs and choices of each community.

Pick a Masechet to learn in memory of the Chayal HaKadosh, Daniel Perez, HY"D, son of our friend Rav Doron Perez. Rav Doron spoke to each one of the 6 RCA mission trips, and has tirelessly worked on behalf of Israel and the Jewish people for years. We were all shaken to our cores upon hearing the confirmation that Daniel had fallen on October 7th while valiantly defending Medinat Yisrael.
As a personal gesture to the Perez family several of us thought that it would be meaningful for us as chaverim and colleagues to do a Siyum Mishnayot in Daniel’s memory. Please sign up for a masechet using the link below and please complete learning by April 16th (before Shekia in Israel).
(This has been coordinated with RCA leadership).
