A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

I am excited to announce our next round of community listening sessions, taking place this fall! RCPL Listens provides an opportunity for community members to share their aspirations to help shape the Library’s service priorities for 2023 and beyond. In the second half of 2016, the Library held a series of sixteen community dialogues that included over 200 individuals representing a diverse cross-section of the people of Redwood City and North Fair Oaks. Five common themes emerged from these conversations in the form of community aspirations toward which the Library could contribute in a positive way. Our areas of focus and service priorities for the past 5 years have been guided by these conversations. RCPL Listens 2022 will take a similar format and will shape our service priorities for the next 5 years. Targeted listening sessions are available for specific community members, and open sessions are available for anyone who wants to contribute to the Library’s future plans. All sessions are bilingual Spanish/English. Meals will be provided for attendees at in-person sessions. The Library is holding listening sessions with specific community partners to seek input from unsheltered individuals, as well as Spanish- and English-speaking youth, caregivers and seniors. Additional people from these groups, as well as anyone who cannot attend the targeted listening sessions, are encouraged to attend the open sessions. We hope that you can join us in these important conversations. The library values your input and your aspirations for the City we all love. UNA CARTA DEL DIRECTOR DE LA BIBLIOTECA   ¡Estoy emocionado de anunciar nuestra próxima ronda de sesiones de escucha comunitaria, que tendrá lugar este otoño! RCPL Escucha brinda una oportunidad para que los miembros de la comunidad compartan sus aspiraciones para ayudar a dar forma a las prioridades de servicio de la Biblioteca para 2023 y más allá.   En la segunda mitad de 2016, la biblioteca llevó a cabo una serie de dieciséis diálogos comunitarios que incluyeron a más de 200 personas que representan una muestra de diversidad representativa de la gente de Redwood City y North Fair Oaks. Cinco temas comunes surgieron de estas conversaciones en forma de aspiraciones comunitarias a las que la Biblioteca podría contribuir de manera positiva. Nuestras áreas de enfoque y prioridades de servicio durante los últimos 5 años se han guiado por estas conversaciones. RCPL Listens 2022 tendrá un formato similar y dará forma a nuestras prioridades de servicio para los próximos 5 años.   Las sesiones de escucha dirigidas están disponibles para miembros específicos de la comunidad, y las sesiones abiertas están disponibles para cualquier persona que desee contribuir a los planes futuros de la Biblioteca. LATINX ART AT THE LIBRARY

We are proud to host two art exhibits in the Family Place of the Downtown Library in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Art exhibit of Lorenzo Cruz Sunu The exhibit includes paintings that depict Cruz’s unique painting style and technique. His colorful paintings of “espaldas” (backs) of Guatemalan women wearing traditional “hupiles” give the impression of a three-dimensional woven cloth rather than a two-dimensional painting. The exhibition runs through October 22, 2022. Rebozos: Art, Textile and Cultural Exhibit This exhibit brings together beautiful artistic designs and weaving of textiles that comprise the Mexican Rebozo.  // Estamos orgullosos de presentar dos exhibiciones de arte en el Family Place de la Biblioteca del Centro en celebración del Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Exposición del artista Lorenzo Cruz Sunu La exposición incluye cuadros que muestran el estilo y la técnica de pintura únicos de Cruz. Sus coloridas pinturas de espaldas de mujeres guatemaltecas vestidas con hupiles tradicionales dan la impresión de ser un tejido tridimensional más que una pintura bidimensional. La exposición estará abierta al publico hasta el 22 de octubre de 2022. Rebozos: Exposición de Arte, Textil y Cultura Esta exhibición reúne hermosos diseños artísticos y tejidos de textiles que componen el Rebozo Mexicano.

THE CIRCUS IS COMING!

Beginning September 30, Zoppé Family Circus will be our Downtown Library neighbors! The circus will be happening in Library Lot B, at the corner of Middlefield Rd. and Jefferson Ave. Zoppé moves in on Friday for a week of setup and the shows begin October 7. ⁠ ⁠ Visitors to the library are encouraged to park in the one hour spaces in Library Lot A. Circus ticket holders are encouraged to park at longer meter spaces at various locations Downtown, like the Jefferson or Marshall Garages. PAW Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic FRI SEP 30, 12pm Partners in Animal Welfare (PAW) will provide a low-cost vaccine clinic on the Library Plaza on September 30th. Little Learners SAT OCT 1, 11am Little Learners books and crafts are available for pick up at the Downtown Library. Materials come with video instructions. ALL REDWOOD CITY LIBRARIES CLOSED MON OCT 3, all day Every year in October, we pause library service for one day for our Staff Development Day. We take this opportunity to focus on ways that we can learn and grow as an organization to better serve the community of Redwood City.
