January 2019
Greetings!

We are delighted to bring you our first newsletter for 2019. These are interesting times and we look forward to sharing news, passing along helpful information, and introducing you to our Lane & Lane team in the months to come.

Speaking of teams, we want to congratulate our Chicago Bears on an unexpected and thrilling 2018 season. While we are disappointed by the way the season ended, and with the departure of Defensive Coordinator, Vic Fangio, the remaining Bears staff and players offer plenty of hope for 2019. With the continued development of our young players, and the spectacular talent and personalities of the Bears, we expect to see a great deal of fun and excitement on the field next season!
In this newsletter we are highlighting:

  • A CBS Chicago news story featuring one of our partners
  • A fun fact about an employee
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning (the incidence rate is at its highest this month)
  • A police officer's Facebook post to a teenage driver
  • Upcoming Chicago area events and activities

We will also be offering contests periodically where our first 10 winners will be able to select a favorite charity for us to make a $25 donation to, so make sure you play!

Feel free to share our emails with your family, friends and colleagues. We welcome your feedback, so please send me an email with your thoughts if you like.

From all of us at Lane & Lane, we wish you happiness as we enter the New Year. May love be in your life, may hope be in your heart, and may peace be in our world.

Last month Lane & Lane partner Mark Brown and one of his clients, a man who was sexually molested as a young Boy Scout in the early 1980s, were interviewed by CBS Chicago. The victim asked not to be identified, but wanted to share his story in the hope that it would help prevent this type of abuse from happening to others. Watch the interview and read the story here
STAYING SAFE
Reckless Driving

On December 16, a North Ridgeville, OH, police officer posted a letter on the department’s Facebook page. It was written to the 18-year-old driver he pulled over after clocking his speed at 100 m.p.h. As of the writing of this newsletter, the post has been shared more than 184,000 times. Yes, it’s that powerful.

The letter speaks to the significance of the words, “Be careful, drive safe” – words every driver, young and not-so-young, should keep in mind when getting behind the wheel. If you haven’t seen it, click here or on the image to link to the department's page and scroll down to find the December 16 post.
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Carbon monoxide (CO) — also known as the “silent shadow” — is an invisible, colorless, odorless, tasteless and dangerous gas. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 400 Americans die every year from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning, with thousands of others falling ill and/or being hospitalized for it. Learn more about CO’s symptoms .

Most of us aren’t even aware of the carbon monoxide in our homes because it can be emitted from a variety of sources, including automobiles, gas appliances or heaters, even ventilation blockages.

Please install or update a fire detection system in your home that includes quality carbon monoxide detectors.
Everyone at Lane & Lane, from our receptionist to our attorneys, plays a vital role in our dedication to doing what’s right for our clients. Throughout the year we'll introduce you to our team. This month we are sharing a fun fact about an employee and invite you to guess her identity. (That's your only clue!) If you’re among the first 10 readers to correctly guess and email us her name we’ll donate $25 to your favorite children’s charity.
At age two, this employee attended a show featuring one of America's greatest vaudeville and comedy teams of all times -- The Three Stooges . She's pictured in the photo with Curly Howard, Larry Fine and her sister.
