In March, the T-RADD basketball teams showcased their competitive spirit at the regional competition. T-RADD's Team A clinched a silver medal, while Team B secured the bronze. Additionally, the T-RADD Skills Division emerged victorious with an impressive tally of 6 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals!
The one-day regional event, hosted at Hart Middle School, had competing delegations from across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Stanislaus counties with over 30 athletes competing among the T-RADD A and B Teams and Skills Division. Months of training and skill development, with practices held every Tuesday since January under the guidance of 13 dedicated coaches, paved the way for success at the regional competition.
The culmination of their hard work was evident in every play! Our T-RADD athletes were not only displaying their basketball skills, but also embodying the core values of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and respect for both the game and volunteers. The coaches of T-RADD expressed immense pride in their athletes, emphasizing their remarkable display of character. Their motto, "Playing today for an inclusive tomorrow," serves as an inspiration to athletes and spectators alike to strive for inclusivity both on and off the court.
A special thank you to Stephanie Brock, T-RADD Athlete, who put together a video of highlights from the regional basketball competition—check it out below!

Building Community Through Conversation

This month we are going to talk about a difficult topic that requires some examination of our own unconscious biases: Ableism. Put simply, Ableism is discrimination against disabled individuals based on the typically unconscious belief that being able-bodied, without any differences or challenges, is the “normal” or “right” way to be in our society. Ableism involves prejudging and underestimating an individual’s ability and aptitude based on their outward presentation of disability. This can happen in an instant – an unconscious snap judgment as a result of years of ingrained beliefs about the capabilities of disabled people.
