Crews Stand Ready for Winter Storm Izzy Snow, freezing rain and sleet are expected to impact much of the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) service territory today and into tonight. Hundreds of REC workers, mutual aid cooperatives and contractors stand ready to respond to any outages that may occur.

Safety is Our Top Priority If you are operating a generator read all safety instructions for your model, and follow these tips: Do not attempt to connect a generator to your home’s wiring. Isolate your generator by connecting appliances or other devices directly to the generator with the appropriate cords. Take care when fueling. Never refuel the unit while it's operating. Do not operate your generator in a closed area. Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is poisonous. Text Link

Downed Power Line Safety  If you see a downed power line, move at least 10 feet away from the line and anything touching it. Follow these tips: Always assume the line is energized, and report it immediately to REC at 800-552-3904 or call 911. Move away from the line by shuffling with small steps, keeping your feet together and on the ground at all times. This will minimize the potential for a strong electric shock. Never drive over a downed power line.

Important Reminders Our crews and employees work very hard to provide Estimated Restoration Times (ERT). The critical word there is estimated. During a major outage situation there are many things that can happen to change an ERT. Please know we are working behind the scenes to provide the most timely and accurate information possible. REC crews will work until all power outages are restored. Like your safety, the safety of our workforce is our top priority. Please understand that sometimes conditions are too hazardous for crews to work. If that occurs during the restoration process, updates will be provided.
