Bits and Pieces

February 4, 2025

We’re just back from the 3-day Rusty Barn Show at the Phoenix Fairgrounds. The show is three days, but the prep for the show and set-up after the show is another story. Lynn, who has all the energy in the world, said today that she’s just crispy fried! I was lucky enough to spend Sunday at home, on the couch or lounge chair, and sleep……Lynn and Shelby, not so lucky. Karen, Jan, and Zoltan had ideas of doing a few things around their homes on Sunday, but those ideas didn’t work out so well either. We all know we will be exhausted, but it’s a fun show, we get to talk to a lot of people, sell some great machines and frames, eat some carnival food (!!!), and more, and the rest of the crew is holding down the fort at the shop (minus the carnival food), so it’s a different pace from what we’re used to. And we have until Labor Day to recoup, when we go to the show at WestWorld in Scottsdale.

I have some VERY exciting news to share with you, something that we are very proud of!!!! We have been named a TOP TEN PARTNER with Grace Company!! Jarek, who was with us at the show, presented us with a beautiful plaque, and it’s an award that we share with you, because without you, there would be no award for us here at SVQ. I mean, we are all cute and adorable and smart and all of those things, but those things don’t necessarily bring the awards or the rewards! We enjoy so much being able to work with Grace with their Q’niques, longarm frames, cutie breeze tabletop frames, QCT software and so much more.  And we strive to make our education/explanation to you the best possible. Lynn is doing a fabulous job, along with others of course, but on social media sites and here at the shop, her name is the one that comes up most frequently! I feel that she is our secret weapon when it comes to compare/contrast questions of our machines to other brands of machines, and also to help you select the best one for your uses when it comes to the Q’nique/Grace line! We haven’t been able to clone people yet, so know that we have others like Jan, Barb, Sue who are happy to help you with your questions also. We can’t dump everything on Lynn’s shoulders, now can we?!?! But then again, she has good, broad shoulders…..just sayin”!

Since I mentioned QCT, remember that we have a specialty camp with Joyce Blowers coming up; dates are March 31, April 1, 2 and 3. Please contact us via the website for further information and sign up. Joyce is excellent and extremely knowledgeable, and her camps fill up fairly quickly. She has a limited number of students so that everyone can get the attention they need and no one gets left behind. Joyce is always bringing in new information and ideas, so nothing gets stale, and that is especially true for her day 4 of the camp. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!!!

On Feb. 9, if you’ve signed and paid for the new Kimi Komi class with Shelby, lucky you! We have had so much interest that we’ve asked Shelby to schedule another class for us, and we’re working on that date now. Remember that for your seat to be totally reserved for you, you must pay for the course, not just sign up. Unfortunately, in the past, too many people sign up and then don’t show up, preventing another student from taking the class. Thanks for your understanding on this policy.

Feb. 10 we have Open Sew, and on Feb. 11 we have Open Embroidery. You work on your own projects, but we have an instructor standing by to help with any issues or questions. It’s a great time with some great ladies, so don’t miss out on meeting some new people and finishing some old projects or starting new ones. We look forward to seeing you.

Our special fabric of the month will be Batiks, because so many of you love them and we have such a large and good selection from which you can choose! They will be 20% off this week when you give us the code: 20BATIKS, and the offer is good online (www.sunvalleyquilts.com) or in shop.     If you’re considering a Judy Niemeyer Paper pieced quilt, come take a look at all the choices we have. And many of us just LOVE helping you select your fabrics which will fit well in your homes. Work with the colors and designs that speak to your heart and you will always love sitting down to sew that quilt.

One bit of sadness to tell you is that I lost my Katie, the golden retriever-Irish setter on Friday. My heart is broken, filled with missing all her antics and playfulness. I know she is better off right now because she developed a very quick form of lymphoma and had no chance of recovery. The vet came to the house, was very gentle with Katie, and all the other kids got to say goodbye to her. Even Rickie the parrot knew something was up and he kept calling her name just right after the vet left. It was because I felt that Katie needed a running partner, someone her size to play with, that Murfee joined the gang. Murfee is 100% Irish setter but Katie looked 100% Irish, with that deep mahogany colored coat. I chose her especially to try to get around the high incidence of cancer in goldens, and low incidence of cancer in Irish setters. I tried, but I guess the thought was good but the result was not. We were fortunate to have 10 good years together, and she only had about 20 hours of down time, so God was still good to us. We never have enough time with them, do we? Looking forward to a better future with Emi, Wee-Willie and Murfee, plus Rickie and Ditto the wonder-horse. Hope to see you soon!
