Mark Your Calendars for Pride Month 2023


LaGuardia is marking Pride Month 2023 with a full calendar of live performances, lectures, and festivities. For a full list of events, visit our Pride webpage. Events are already underway. On Friday, May 26, LaGuardia LGBTQIA+ students and allies participated in the Queens-wide Lavender Graduation Celebration at Queens College. On the same day, Casa de las Américas hosted a talk with Lorraine Avila, author of “The Making of Yolanda la Bruja,” about their writing career, their book, and creating queer characters.

CUNY Marches in the Queens Pride Parade, Sunday June 4 at 11 a.m.


Join the CUNY LGBTQIA+ Consortium, a contingent comprised of students, faculty, staff from CUNY schools throughout the five boroughs of NYC, as we march together and celebrate our Pride at this annual parade down 37th Avenue (from 89th Street to 75th Street) in Jackson Heights, Queens. Participating marchers will receive a commemorative Queens Pride t-shirt! An afternoon street festival in the neighborhood (on 37th Road) follows the parade, featuring live music, DJs, drag performances, local vendors and more. Show your Pride with CUNY and register to march with us today.

Free Ice Cream for Students

 

LaGuardia students are in for a treat, courtesy of MBJ! Students can stop by the M-Building Cafeteria on Monday, June 12 or the C-Building First Floor Café on Tuesday, June 13, from 12–3 p.m. for a free ice cream (while supplies last)!

Fresh Vegetables, Bread, and Eggs Available for Students Through LaGuardia CARES

 

LaGuardia CARES is distributing fresh vegetables, bread, and eggs every Monday through June 26, while supplies last. Distribution is made through the LaGuardia CARES office in C-107. LaGuardia CARES can be reached at (718) 482-5135 or [email protected].

Over 120 student-presenters from 10 CUNY campuses convened at LaGuardia's Little Theater last week for the CUNY Research Scholars Program (CRSP) Summer Symposium.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2023: Commencement Ticket Distribution Begins Monday


Pre-Commencement activities begin Monday, June 5 in the M-Building Gym


  • Commencement ceremony tickets (wristbands) will be distributed. Graduates will receive one wristband for themselves and three guest wristbands.
  • Graduates that pre-ordered a cap and gown online can pick up their order during this time.
  • Graduates that did not yet purchase a cap and gown may do so in person during the below times; the cost is $38 (check, money order, debit and credit cards are accepted).
  • Graduate Portraits are available through Thornton Studios on June 5, 6 and 7 during the below times .

The Peer Academy is Hiring 



The Peer Advisor Academy is recruiting current, successful LaGuardia students to provide academic planning guidance to fellow students. Peer Advisors are LaGuardia students who help students understand the College’s advisement process. Using their own student experiences, along with their established connections to departmental staff, Peer Advisors provide advising guidance by helping students with academic planning and digital tools, as well as introducing them to key campus and major-specific resources. Students can learn more and apply online.

Student Success Mentor Program Hiring


LaGuardia’s Student Success Mentor Program is hiring! The SSM Program offers resources and assistance for students to reach their full potential. Student Success Mentors provide a wide-range of support to students while facilitating the Studio Hour component of a discipline-specific First Year Seminar course or Capstone course. They introduce students to key strategies and habits of mind for academic success, initiate and guide ePortfolio development, promote co-curricular learning opportunities, and share important campus resources designed to support each student’s academic journey.   • Construction in the Courtyard Reading Room is almost complete and will be accessible to students shortly. When this space opens, the Thomson Reading Room will close. These areas will still be accessible by elevator. The Mezzanine is still accessible to students by the side staircases and the elevator. 
  • Need a one-credit class for Spring II? Sign up for LRC 103, our Internet Research Strategies class. You can find more information here
  • The IT lab on the first floor behind the Media Help Desk is available for online classes. Most computers have cameras and headphones are available (and they’re free!).
