The era of remote working began abruptly just over two years ago. As the first wave of Covid-19 cases prompted lockdowns in the West, white-collar workers had to get used to new ways of conducting business.

Now another era is getting under way. Unless a dangerous new variant of the virus again intervenes, more and more workers will be returning to the office for at least a portion of their work week.

Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath has been one of the biggest business challenges of our time. To keep operations going, most companies needed to adopt new ways of working that left their offices, factories, and stores empty.

Two years later, the world looks very different. Workplace trends and employee preferences that accelerated and crystallized during the pandemic aren’t going away, leaving organizations contemplating how, when, and even if to have their teams resume regular in-office hours.

survey Microsoft conducted last year indicated that 41% of the global workforce would consider switching jobs in the next year, with 55% noting that work environment would play a role in their decisions.

Reed Construction partners with the top architects, developers and property management firms to creatively address the challenge of designing and building workplaces to which people want to return.

WORKPLACE CHANGES THAT CAN ENTICE

A RETURN TO THE OFFICE

1. Identify what spaces are for and name them accordingly to emphasize a more warm, inviting, collaborative environment

2. Listen to what your top employees say they want and need, even if you can’t execute on every idea

3. Experiment within your organization to create a more thoughtful office environment - repurpose conference rooms, invest in a new teaming table, or refurbish a floor instead of an entire building

4. Offer opportunities to discover new insights, especially for younger workers, for whom the office is as much a place to learn and socialize as it is a place to meet deadlines

With Reed, Construction Doesn't Have to be Painful
