Comprehensive IUD Training

(Eligible for 6 CME Credits)

The training is suited both for providers who have never placed IUDs, as well as those who have experience with IUD insertions and removals, but who want to fine-tune their skills. The agenda for the training includes information about patient method selection, counseling and consent, techniques for the use of instruments during IUD placement, and instruction in the insertion of each type of IUD currently available in the U.S.

The training includes hands-on practice with pelvic models and computer simulators and proctoring by family planning experts. Advanced topics include management of side effects, tips for managing difficult placements, pain management principles for office procedures, and prevention and management of complications. Participants will learn how to establish a clinic flow conducive to the same-day insertion of IUDs.

The training is presented in collaboration with Bayer, Allergan/Medicines360, and CooperSurgical.

Disclaimer: While this training includes "hands-on" insertion techniques for all IUDs using plastic pelvic models, clinicians who need additional training or practice should utilize a preceptor who is experienced in IUD placement to proctor IUD placement procedures with actual patients. The Office of Family Planning does not arrange for the scheduling of, or payment for, preceptors.

Contraceptive Implant Insertion Training

NEXPLANON® (etonogestrel implant) 68 mg Radiopaque

(Eligible for 2 CME Credits)

You are invited to join your colleagues at a Clinical Training Program for NEXPLANON® (etonogestrel implant) 68 mg Radiopaque. During the Clinical Training Program for NEXPLANON, you will receive hands-on training for insertion and removal procedures as well as implant localization techniques. Completion of this course will allow you to order the product from authorized distributors. Space is limited to 50 participants; please register early for the session.

This session, which is sponsored by Organon, is accredited for continuing education credit. The training is open only to Medical Doctors (MDs), Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Physician Assistants (PAs), or Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), and Residents authorized to perform the procedures entailed in the insertion and removal of NEXPLANON in the jurisdiction where they practice. Additionally, NPs, PAs, and CNMs must attest that they have met all specific state conditions and requirements, including but not limited to signing a collaborative agreement with an MD/DO.

Residents or students in advanced practice training must understand that they can only administer NEXPLANON under the supervision of an attending healthcare provider who has also been trained on the procedures to insert and remove NEXPLANON.

It is Organon’s policy to verify all healthcare provider, US state license and/or NPI number, and eligibility information in advance of the training. Organon will contact you directly if there is a problem. Attendees are expected to attend the entire training, which is approximately 2 to 3 hours in duration. Certificates of attendance will not be issued to those who arrive late or leave early.

Family PACT LARC Policy

Note: Each provider site enrolling in the Family PACT Program must identify, at a minimum, one practitioner trained to provide Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) services onsite. The trained practitioner must be indicated on the application for enrollment.

Only licensed personnel with family planning skills, knowledge and competency may provide medical services under Family PACT in accordance with W&I Code, Section 24005 (b).



Learning Objectives

• Discuss the pros and cons of LARCs with women interested in long-term methods to protect against unwanted pregnancies
• Learn and apply the proper techniques for insertion and removal of LARCs such as Nexplanon, Liletta, Skyla, Kyleena, Mirena, and Paragard to expand access to women interested in other contraceptives aside from hormonal and barrier methods
• Fulfill Family PACT program compliance standards requiring that all Family PACT providers be able to offer LARC services onsite
• Identify and apply the recommended treatment options for common IUD and implant placement complications
• Learn and apply the proper billing codes for IUD and implant service reimbursement and new methods claims
