JOIN FELLOW TEACHERS for an interactive workshop, engaging discussions, and content-rich presentations exploring Truman's civil rights legacy.

This two-day workshop—designed for teachers, by teachers (grades 4-12)—will draw on original source material on the post-World War II civil rights crisis in the United States. This is a rare opportunity to hear from Truman scholars, experience real-world problem solving in the White House Decision Center, conduct primary source analysis, participate in moderated panel discussions, and take home classroom application strategies.

Participants will explore the legacy of President Truman’s Executive Order 9981 integrating the military and look to the future of inclusion and equal opportunity today and tomorrow in our nation's military. You’ll leave with new ideas and new information about how you can incorporate this chapter of civil rights history into your classrooms and curriculum.

The $25 registration fee includes a 12-month Truman Library membership. Benefits include Member-only events, Museum Store discounts and free Museum admission at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum and all presidential libraries operated by the National Archives.
