About the Course:

This important course provides information about standards and ethics requirements for valuers in general and, more specifically, for valuers who belong to the Appraisal Institute. Through discussion questions and examples, you’ll identify behavior and actions that illustrate violations of the Code of Professional Ethics, and you’ll learn how referrals can be made. You’ll get an introduction to the Appraisal Institute Guide Notes to the Standards of Professional Practice and see how the Guide Notes can be used to resolve everyday appraisal practice problems. Finally, you’ll learn about common errors in appraisal reports and review reports, and they respond to questions about challenges that arise in appraisal practice such as requests for updates and requests to change or add intended users.

About the Developer/Instructor

Byron Miller, SRA, AI-RRS, ASA, RAA, MSSE

A certified residential appraiser licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He is the owner and principal appraiser of BM Appraisals in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His firm specializes in valuation services for consulting, dissolution, eminent domain, estate, litigation, and relocation.

This is Byron’s second act, which is a profession of choice. He spent his first act as a firmware engineer/manager for several fortune 500 companies. His appraisal interest started in 1986 when he watched an appraiser appraise his home. However, life got in the way, and he didn’t consummate his passion for the valuation profession until 2001.

Byron’s niche is valuing complex properties. Such as, agricultural, construction defects, lakefront, multi-unit, and upper-bracket properties, for attorneys, eminent domain, estates, and lenders. He is an instructor, course developer, author, an eminent domain county commissioner, past Chair of the MN Real Estate Appraiser Advisory Board (REAAB), past President North Star Chapter, past president Relocation Appraisers & Consultants, and a member of the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation or TAF.

Byron has an intense passion for appraising and helping others. This passion manifests itself in the form of continual self-improvement through education, instruction, and mentoring.
