#FacultyFriday: Dr. Theresa Ast, committed to history
Dr. Theresa Ast began her college career when her youngest son started first grade. Since then, Ast has committed her life to continuously learning about and teaching history, a subject she values and finds important.

Ast's parents played a big role in her values, as they inspired her studies and the way she carries herself, saying they have always been great for her.

Now a Reinhardt faculty member of 20 years, Ast still enjoys connecting with her students in the small class setting. Not only does she make connections with them during the semester, but she said the environment Reinhardt creates allows her to keep in touch with past students long after graduation.

Ast wants her students to understand that good history reflects the world "as accurately as possible and the real world is extraordinarily complicated."

"If we look for simple black and white answers, we will not find them, and we will not understand the world, the society, the culture we live in," said Ast. ... Read More

Kim Fowler '17 follows in family's footsteps
Kim Fowler '17 always wanted to become a teacher, much like the many women educators in her family, but she began her education on a different path.

Fowler studied marketing and earned a bachelor's degree in business, turning to Reinhardt's Master of Arts in Teaching program to pursue her dreams.

The proximity to her home was ideal for Fowler, who balanced a full-time job and raising her family while earning her graduate degree. The program ended up creating lasting relationships with other students, connections that continue today, providing Fowler and her fellow classmates with the necessary support to transition from their current career fields into the classroom to educate children. Fowler now teaches kindergarten at Free Home Elementary. ... Read More
