NYC Council Member Rodriguez Statement on Trump Protection Costs

Blasts House Republicans Offer to Reimburse the Exorbitant Costs of Protecting President-Elect Trump

New York, NY -- Council Member Rodriguez, who hosted a press conference on Monday calling for President-Elect Trump to move his transition team out of New York City to ease the financial and transportation costs incurred by New Yorkers, issued this statement today:

"Congress is not cutting it with this meager offer," said Council Member Rodriguez, in response to the $7 million offer to repay the city of New York for the protection of President Elect Trump. "At a price tag of over $1 million a day, New York taxpayers are being shafted, subsidizing the federal government at an exorbitant cost. I renew my request to President-Elect Trump and his family to vacate this building and to put it into a blind trust, severing all ties to it. This is the smartest move not only for New York tax payers but for the American tax payers Mr. Trump claims to care for. New Yorkers should not shoulder the weight of a whim, especially one that will cost $1 billion dollars over 4 years."
