New York, NY -- Following the announcement that President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Labor, Andy Puzder, had removed his name from consideration from the post, NYC Council Members Rodriguez and Menchaca released this joint statement:
"That Mr. Puzder has removed his name from Labor Secretary consideration stands as a testament to people power across the country. Mr. Puzder was never going to be an advocate for American workers. His history as a CEO of fast food restaurants where he faced charges of mistreating workers and worse speaks for itself. This is good news for those striving to make it to the middle class in our country. It also gives the president an opportunity to make a new selection, capable of speaking to the plight of the American working class, through whom he was elected. We thank the labor advocates, individuals, and elected officials who voiced unanimous disgust at such an unqualified person. We still have a lot of work to do, but this nominee's spectacular failure proves we can be effective together."
