COUNCIL MEMBER YDANIS RODRIGUEZ APPLAUDS MAYOR DE BLASIO FOR DECISION TO DROP FLOYD V. NYC APPEAL

New York, NY--On Thursday, January 30th, 2014, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio upheld one of his top campaign promises to drop the city's appeal of the landmark Floyd V. NYC case, otherwise known as the Stop and Frisk case.
Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, a tireless fighter for stop and frisk reform, had this to say about the announcement:

"I applaud the steps taken today our Mayor Bill de Blasio and his administration in filing to drop the appeal of the landmark "Floyd v. NYC" or, Stop and Frisk case. We can now begin to see meaningful reforms, as laid out by U.S. Judge Shira Sheindlin, which will begin a healing process for our communities most severely affected by this unconstitutional practice. This move demonstrates one of the clearest breaks from the previous era of policing and delivers on one of Bill de Blasio's most important campaign promises. Communities of color across NYC have lived with a sense of wary discomfort for far too long and this move can only help to bring neighborhoods and police officers closer together in the interest of solving crimes. Communities should be a resource and key partner in fighting crime and I expect to see this relationship expand productively in the near future."
