Council Member Rodriguez Statement on Arrest of Heinous Domestic Abuser
New York, NY--NYPD today announced the arrest of a Mr. Jason Melo, who posted a despicable video of what appears to be himself degrading his domestic partner as he forces her to walk down a Manhattan street naked, in retribution for what he claims to be infidelities. When this video was posted earlier this week, Council Member Rodriguez released a statement condemning the video and the glorification of domestic violence. With news of Mr. Melo's arrest, Council Member Rodriguez issued this statement:
"Following the posting of one of the most disturbing videos I have ever seen, of a man on the streets of Manhattan verbally and psychologically abusing his domestic partner, I applaud the NYPD for their swift action in making an arrest. This behavior has no place in our city, much less in a community that has faced severe struggles with domestic violence. Today's arrest sends a clear message that domestic violence is heinous crime and the glorification of one's violent actions on social media will lead to an immediate response. As a father of two daughters and brother to seven sisters, I was deeply appalled by this video and urge New Yorkers to remain vigilant in combating domestic violence in all its forms."
