New York, NY--Council Member Rodriguez responds to the Mayor's announced preliminary budget today:
"Mayor de Blasio's preliminary budget continues the course we set out on two years ago to craft a more equitable City for all," said Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez. "This budget addresses key needs in areas of transportation, public health, housing and education. I am pleased by the continued commitment to Vision Zero, through an increase in funding for street redesign projects, traffic agents and camera enforcement. These investments will have a real impact toward saving lives. The increase in parks enforcement is necessary to ensure our uptown parks are safe and with substantial resources dedicated to homeless services and shelter renovations, we can provide more secure havens for our most vulnerable New Yorkers. Finally, investments in education display the commitment that Mayor de Blasio has to early childhood education and our city's disconnected youth."
"This budget also shows our mayor's value for fiscal prudence and foresight. With turbulence in the global economy resonating across the globe, our global city is now better prepared to deal with any road bumps that come our way. Over the coming months, I look forward to diving deeper into this budget with my colleagues to arrive at a point where the needs of all New Yorkers are addressed and fiscal prudence is maintained."
