RELEASE: Minnesota’s largest police association endorses Cicely Davis, challenger to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

St. Louis Park, MN -  Today U.S. Congressional candidate Cicely Davis (MN-5) is pleased to accept the endorsement of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA), the largest association representing public safety professionals in the state. Cicely is challenging incumbent Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in the November 2022 elections.

5th Congressional District Candidate Cicely Davis said, “I’m honored to have the endorsement of the MMPOA. They recognize that I won’t stand by and watch our community be destroyed by poverty and crime. I stand with public safety officials that work to keep our communities safe against those who seek mayhem. I stand with victims of crime who deserve justice. And I stand with those who seek a safer Hennepin County in every community.”

Regarding the Minneapolis ballot initiative on defunding the police, Cicely added the following: “Minneapolis residents have spoken and common sense prevailed. Law and order won Tuesday night across the country. Minneapolis was ground zero for that victory as our city remains at the forefront of the dangerous effort to defund the police. I will continue to meet and work with police officers and public safety officials in our district as they tirelessly work to keep our communities safe.”

MPPOA Executive Director Brian Peters said, “Cicely Davis understands and prioritizes public safety to keep those in Hennepin County safe, unlike Omar who prioritizes defunding and demonizing law enforcement. Davis stands against all attempts to defund and dismantle police and will promote smart public safety proposals.”

Addressing the defeat of the Public Safety Charter Amendment, Brian Peters said, “This should be a wake-up call to politicians who want to simply abolish and defund police departments. Police officers serve their communities and place public safety and justice for crime victims at the forefront of their daily actions. Let’s work together for increased safety for all, instead of pursuing reckless policies that only empower criminals.”

The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA) represents Minnesota’s 10,000+ public safety officials who hold active law enforcement licenses in the state of Minnesota. Members include police officers, correctional officers, dispatchers, and firefighters. The MPPOA is the largest association representing public safety professionals in the State of Minnesota.
