The African Union Commission, African governments and development partners are acknowledging the importance of soil health as a key component in the effort to transform agriculture on the continent. There is now renewed desire among policy makers and development partners to promote fertilizer use and soil health enhancing practices in order to achieve resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems in Africa. To this end, the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) and Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) are convening a side event at the 2022 World Food Prize conference to discuss the priority areas around fertilizers and soil health.
The side event will bring together leaders in business, agricultural research and policy, policy makers and donors to discuss what concrete strategies and actions need to be taken by African leaders and stakeholders over the next 10 years to achieve increased agricultural productivity on the continent. This side event is one of several events organized by AAP, ReNAPRI, IFDC and other partners in conjunction with the African Union in the lead up to the African Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit (AFSHS) which will take place in June 2023.
