EDUCATION SESSION #922
Conversation with Tom Hardin - Tipper X in Hong Kong and Live Simulcast in Singapore and Sydney
Once an up-and-coming star of the hedge fund industry, Tom Hardin's trajectory drastically changed with his 2015 sentence for insider trading in the U.S. Forever branded with the scarlet letter, "F" for felon, he'll tell his cautionary tale. Hardin will share his life leading up to his crimes, his rationalization of illegal decisions and his double life as a government informant.

Hardin is Tipper X one of the FBI's key witnesses in Operation Perfect Hedge, which was the largest insider trading investigation in 25 years and resulted in more than 80 guilty pleas or convictions.

With a lifetime ban from working in the securities industry, Hardin now reflects on his role in insider trading, as he meets with compliance and finance professionals to assist in their insider trading compliance efforts. He has spoken at Goldman Sachs, Yale Law School, Harvard Business School and the FBI.

There is no better way to understand the sobering reality of reputation and career decimation than hearing it first-hand from someone who once sat in the analyst’s seat.

Hardin will present live to audience members in Hong Kong and the conversation will be broadcast simultaneously for attendees in Singapore and Sydney to also participate together at PwC's offices via video. Space is limited, so please register for your event location below.

BIOGRAPHIES
Tom Hardin
Tipper X

At age 28, Tom Hardin was a junior partner at an up-and-coming hedge fund. He was on track to achieve his dream career, but before long, felt like he was falling behind in an increasingly competitive industry. Then, a moment arose when he made a decision to cross a very important line and the rest is history. Tom was later charged with felony securities fraud and, known as "Tipper X," became the FBI’s most productive cooperating witness in Operation Perfect Hedge, a sting setup by the federal government in 2007-2012 targeting the hedge fund industry. The sting branched out into the largest insider trading investigation in 25 years, leading to over 80 guilty pleas or convictions. Since resolving his case in 2015, Tom was invited by FBI-NYC to speak to their rookie agent class in 2016 and now consults and speaks on conduct risk, ethics and compliance issues from his former frontline perspective. He holds a B.S. in Economics with a Finance concentration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
