Legislative Committee Meeting Update for 2019

Colorado Senior Lobby is making some changes. First of all this is the new CSL Legislative Committee News email. During the legislative session this is a weekly email that is sent on Saturday or Sunday before the Monday morning CSL Legislative Committee Meeting. The email shares a meeting reminder of the upcoming weekly meeting and what will be discussed at the meeting.

Some of you are new to this committee but you are receiving this email because you have previously attended or you have expressed an interest through selecting this list group in Constant Contact. If you do not want to receive these emails then use the link below to unenroll.

How group works …

While the legislature is in session, Colorado Senior Lobby (CSL) uses software called StateBill to sort through activity on the hundreds of bills proposed by legislators and to track where those bills are in the legislative process. CSL’s focus is of course on bills impacting older adults (many other organizations use StateBill for their own purposes).

With the results of that analysis (all done by volunteers) in hand, the Legislative Committee (LC) has weekly meetings to review the selected legislation. The result is that the CSL LC may vote to support, oppose, or just monitor those proposed pieces of legislation; each case is different. As a bill proceeds through the legislature, it is frequently amended (again, StateBill helps us here) and sometimes our position on bills change.

During this process the CSL Capitol Gang (which you may join) is inside the Capitol, making contact with legislators on bills and testifying when necessary. Any of this work may result in the CSL changing its position in regard to a bill.

Your Attention Here, Please - This Is New:

Due to increasing costs for the software service we use to access State Bill, which is a critical tool in our process, CSL will, effective January 29, 2019 no longer absorb that cost for non-CSL members to access the bill report. To get access to the bill report, you must be a CSL member. All paid members will receive a password to access the bill report within 14 days of joining.

Membership is only $30 per year for an individual,
$40 per year for the household.
See our website for organizational membership contributions.
The value of CSL membership is far greater than its cost.
