RE: Pre-Allied Health Certificate Proposed Cancellation

I am writing to inform you that TCL is proposing to terminate the Pre-Allied Health Certificate (PAH). You are receiving this letter because you are currently enrolled in the Pre-Allied Health Certificate. The PAH certificate is being terminated because it does not qualify as a gainful employment certificate as defined by the federal government, and thus it is ineligible for federal financial aid. Please understand that this proposed change does not apply to the Health Science programs - i.e. nursing, radiologic technology, physical therapy assisting, medical assisting, massage therapy, or surgical technology - it only effects the Pre-Allied Health Certificate.  The Health Sciences Division believes the courses are a firm foundation for student success.

What does this mean for you when the certificate is approved for termination? We have several options:

1)     Change your major to a new option of AS.AS. (NUR, RAD, PTA) or AAS.GTEC (SUR, MTH, MED,) simply by sending an email with the Subject Line: "Change my major to AS.AS. (designate your program e.g. NUR, RAD, PTA) or AAS.GTEC (designate program e.g. SUR, MTH, or MED)". Send the email to [email protected]. The office will change your major and the new major will be eligible to receive federal financial aid if you meet all other financial aid criteria.
2)     Complete the Pre-Allied Health certificate. The college is seeking approval to enter a teach-out phase for the certificate. The college will commit to offering each technical course from the program at least one more time over the next year. During the teach-out, each of the courses in the certificate will be offered, at least once, regardless of enrollment. The completion plan may include courses being delivered in a different format. However, be advised that federal financial aid may not cover these courses. Lottery Tuition Assistance may be applied if all criteria are met. To continue in the PAH certificate program, send an email with the subject line: "Complete PAH Certificate" to [email protected] and [email protected]. An advisor will contact you.
3)     You do not want to continue pursuing a degree in the health sciences. You want to change your major to another program and you have made your decision as to what program you want - Send an email with the Subject Line: Change of Major (indicate name of major) to [email protected].
4)     You do not want to continue pursuing a degree in health sciences. You want to explore other career options but need career counseling. Send an email with the Subject Line: Career Counseling to [email protected]. Ms. Gallion will help you with exploring career options.

PLEASE NOTE: In the body of your email response include the following: your student ID number, your full name, the best phone number to reach you, and the best time of day to reach you.
